Kirill Kaprizov Receives Match Penalty After Cross-Check Targets Drew Doughty's Face

"Intent to injure" seems like such a subjective penalty. It's a dumb penalty for Kaprizov to take, but we see players intentionally crosscheck their opponents to the face and get 2min for crosscheck or highstick. So often we see players intentionally trying to take opponents out of the game and get a minor. Make it make sense NHL, this just seems like a penalty refs can give instead of a minor if they feel like it.

Doesn't matter if others have done it. It was clearly a cross-check intentionally to the unprotected face....and that is obvious "intent to injure". Hockey doesn't give people blank freedom to do these things. I play hockey far too much to know what intent to injure is. Whether he thought Doughty was gonna do the same to him...but didn't....doesn't give him the right to slash Doughty to the face. THis one will end up in a suspension for a few games, in my opinion.

When Dougherty hits Kaprizov in the face first and there is no penalty for that, the referees lose credibility in their view of the game. Kaprill was reacting, (poorly) as his eyes were not on Dougherty. Looks like he drew blood so it was an automatic 5 and a game. Match? I don't think it was more of an attempt to injure than a solid body check. All in all, it is a good lesson for us to be in better control of our emotions and sticks to curtail high risk behavior. Dougherty needs to keep his stick down as well, or he'll be waving goodbye to $5K next.

@@joeidaho5938 it kinda does matter if others have done it because the whole point of a set of rules should be consistency in how they're enforced. We should be able to see infractions and see how they're going to be penalised and players should also know how penalties would be judged so they can focus on playing the game, not wondering whether they're gonna get a penalty or not and if so will it be 2 mins or will they get kicked out. I would be critical of this call regardless who was on the receiving end because of the fact that so often we see even more brutal non-hockey plays getting 2 mins whilst this is apparently the one instance that i've seen this season where the referees apparently think is worthy of an "attempt to injure" call. Also looks like the DOPS didn't agree with your assertion that this was suspension worthy as they've just given him the "slap on the wrist" 5k fine, which looks like even the league thought that the penalty called was unwarranted.

Both Tkachuk's action...and this one....should be penalized...and I won't be surprised if Kaprizov gets a similar suspension to Tkachuk. Match penalty is just the immediate penalty. Suspension decision will come today, I believe.

Dude takes a helluva lot of punishment without retaliating. Doughty crosschecks him in the back, knocks him to the ice, slaps his helmet a couple times when he's down, and then high sticks him to the face. Not many people wouldn't react to that. And how did Doughty not get 2 for high-sticking?

Doughty did not actually hit him with a high stick. He simply came close. That is NOT a penalty...and certainly no reason to hit Doughty to the unprotected part of his face with a stick. Kaprizov deserved the match penalty...and deserves a short suspension also.

@@bv2on2 In this instance, it doesn't matter. It's about intent...and Kaprizov intentionally goes for the face...even if the stick just misses the face and hits the shoulder. It's far from being roughing. One could call it a flagrant high stick with intent to injure...which is at least a 5 minute penalty.....and probably a suspension. Blatant intent to injure....with a weapon... is not cool in the game of hockey.

Kaprisov hit him before he even realized it, you can tell by his reaction. Yes, it was a foul, yes, it was intentional and yes, it deserved at least two minutes. But a Match foul with intent to injure? Come on. Doughty roughed Kaprisov up pretty good along the boards and Kaprisov reacted. Not saying he should have but If you do play you should know how frustrating it can be when someone puts you into the boards when you are just trying to get up off the ice. I'm an LA fan and I don't even think Kaprizov deserved that.

If he would have actually hit him in the face with the stick, it would have been a suspension. He was lucky this time.

я думаю Короли принципиально настроились на Дикарей , последние два сезона уж очень много крови Дикари им попили , а на Капризова давить уж сам бог велел при такой блеклой игре Дикарей, не спортивно это да , но сейчас это сработало . Вообще опять же на мой взгляд Дикари поспешили с амбициями на плей-офф прошлого сезона ввязавшись в чехарду с вратарями лучше бы с Фиалом договорились бы , парень амбициозный и разносторонний как игрок, когда соперники сковывали Цукарелло с Капризовым он много решал в такие моменты, это сезон видно у Дикарей что то сломалось в игре, нет прошлогоднего азарта, либо пока раскачиваться что бы не перегореть морально к концу сезона. В любом случае в прошлом году была команда цельной , в этом сильные провалы и дизбаланс по командной игре .

Так им не с чего уставать то напрашивается только одно - тренировка на более поздние стадии. Уверен что диари выйдут в плейофф и, учитывая какой был провал по физухе в прошлом году, в этом сделали и выводы и изменили тренировки, то же самое и блюзменов.

@@user-cf2qw9ti2g ну во первых Капризов по хокейным меркам далеко не сопляк, а во вторых на такие хитрости и уловки идут осознавая свою слабость и безвыходность, Даути в прошлом отличный защитник но его пик пройден и сдержать игрока уровня Капризова как он показал может только вот за щет таких уловок. Это хороший опыт для Капризова и его команды, поверьте они проработают это т момент игры и сделают выводы. Хоть даже такие хитрости и часть игры ,но красоты в них лично я не вижу.

IMO Doughty should get an embellishment fine for his theatrics. No blood and he stays on the ice for another shift. Doughty's action just prior to this incident should have been called for elbowing, cross checking, interference. Drew "Dangerfield" Doughty certainly embellished. He basically mugs Kaprizov for no penalty, and then he get rewarded after a glove or high stick to the face. His job was to take Kaprizov out of the game, and the refs made that a literal conclusion.

Lol...that's just funny. Of course it was intentional. There is nothing in the replay that comes across as this being not intentional. Kaprizov is looking right at Doughty when he swings his stick towards his face. THis was clearly some kind of retribution using his stick...and it deserves a suspension. How the hell does a high stick aimed for the face....or even the shoulder...amount to roughing?? Learn about ice hockey, bud. It was high sticking or cross-checking with clear intent to injure.

The ignorance of the announcers - there is no such thing in the NHL as a 5 min major for anything other than fighting. If you get a five min major for anything else, it's automatically a match penalty - 5 + GM + league review.
