I have an aftermarket heater block similar to Elegoo's upcoming unit, which I use for my Saturn 2, and it really works. It pumps out warm air set to a thermostat, and keeps the temp quite steady in there. The printer enclosure is pretty small in the overall sense, so it seems to take just a little air movement to overcome the convection effect. But it doesn't blow like a hair dryer or anything, it's quite gentle.
@walterrldias8 ай бұрын
I use the airheater from Vog, with a heater fan and it works perfectly, I print at 40 degrees Celsius with functional especialized resin and it works perfectly, it circulates the air so the resin also warms up after 20 minutes or so.

If you can measure how much of the vat stays above the recess in the chassis when it tilts, it will be possible to figure out if the Thermal Vat Band will work (that's the thin one you mentioned). The band is 1 inch wide, so if it's positioned at the top of the vat, just below the round off of the lip, it might work. The company also suggests it can be mounted inside the tank, though I'm not sure how long the adhesives would last with constant exposure to resin.

I have a solution for your location/temp issue. Use the printer in the studio, edit in the garage and wear a cardigan! Sorted.

Living in Central Australia, I'm pleased that the biggest criticism for this is the lack of heater.
@marcuskent58527 ай бұрын
The fact that they didnt include a heater is helpful as it didnt increase the price for those of us who dont need it. You are looking at a narrow view of you. i think the lack of a heater is a pro, since I dont need it.
@Kirioth4 ай бұрын
I literally say at 19:38 that if you're looking for a printer that's easy to use, simple to set up, and >you're printing in a controlled environment where you dictate the temperature< and you want something that's going to produce good prints quickly, this printer >is for you< and I 100% RECOMMEND IT. How is that looking at a narrow view? By pointing out that for some of us a heated vat is useful and it's therefore not ideal for this printer to not have that feature AND by saying if you don't care about that feature this printer is absolutely worth your time, I've looked at BOTH points of view and addressed them.
@jamescameron-clarke25608 ай бұрын
Smash this together with the GK Two, and it'd be an ideal printer to my mind. Take the more enclosed build plate, better flip-up lid, and the biggest thing for me - the vat heater, and combine it with the tilting mechanism and the self-leveling capabilities (and price), and I'd have already bought one. Here's hoping we get that one perfect printer some day... I have a Saturn 2, and whilst I use the brewing band thing, and have a little ceramic heater to wam up the grow tent I keep it all in, it's all more ~stuff~ that needs fiddling with to get useful and costs a little more. An affordable, pretty much plug-and-play all in one solution would be a killer.
@Namamiri8 ай бұрын
I think the price will be around 1400€ if you get all of this in one printer 😅. I also want the tilting and vat heating together. The air filters dont work anyway
@swaslaukinonome8 ай бұрын
Why can't we have heaters that heat the viscous fluid directly and not the air around it? If I can just suck air out of a big port on the machine, I probably don't need a tent. I'd prefer to maximize air exchange around the source of the toxicity instead of making a toxic tent I'll have to open in some air tight space near Canada anyways. So close, just not quite ideal yet. What a step forward from the last couple generations regardless.

Set mine up today. Printer to the filter assembly with an Anycubic wash and cure. I am a new to printer guy and did not want to do anything more than what I needed. Did not change any settings at all. I want to do this in my computer room and had hoped that the filter system would make it livable. It does not. Smell is awful! Ran print of minis, then mini weapons, and finally bases. Detail is amazing. Much, much better than the lead minis I started with in the 80s. My suggestions for the printer are: Make the rear metal and tap the holes for the exhaust. Add a magnetic plate for the build plate. The models are very hard to remove. The heater I would make an option. (I live in Florida and don't need one) On the filter: make the hose lighter/less expensive. Add a hose from the top than can exhaust over a smallish distance. And finally, the slicer: I used Chitubox since it came with the printer. Add resins to the menu so that people don't have to go through setting them up for themselves. I know there are variances for area conditions so I would say between X-Y temp these settings are recommended. Milage may vary.

You could add (to any resin printer, as required) your own internal LED strip etc. LED's do not give off UV (extremely low, negligible levels), but if you really wanted to you could use a UV cover over them, like the case uses (translucent UV proof). I would not bother with that. Power (5v etc) could be stolen from the mainboard to run those added LEDs. An internal heater, like the Elegoo one, would be no issue and would work totally fine. Heat will circulate, whether it was blown out sidewards, upwards, downwards.... It is trapped inside a "box". The main issue is losing heat when the cover is opened. But the same as for a heat band, you would preheat before printing anyway. So whilst a heat band system is better, the fan heater type wouldn't be too far amiss either. The Vat is HIGH, so there should not be any issue finding a heatband that can still work with it anyway...... so even better, have BOTH heating methods.
@SteveMichaelАй бұрын
I use a similar heater for my Saturn 2. It works great, and a note that you do need to let it run for a bit to heat up the entire enclosed area with the resin. So I give mine like 30 minutes to do so. I do that OR I just set the temp and put in Resin that is at the temp to begin with and let the heater keep it at that temperature. Is it perfect? Probably not but does it do a very good job? Yes.

Have you figured anything good out about the heat problem? I seen a video somewhere the heat band you showed, that orange one works for the tilting vat. I can’t find that video anywhere now. There’s another one about a black heat band, but it’s sold out and will be until next year I heard

I've got a saturn 3 ultra and I've mostly been loving it. recent issues (Pierced FEP) have kind of thrown that into jeopardy because it's made attempting to print anything absolute hell. as for temperature, I have tried pointing a heater at it but considering... current times, that is not financially viable, having a heater poiinted at a room with an open window for hours on end. good luck anyway!
@jasonburnside36268 ай бұрын
I think the Tilting Vat feature (so long as it works and doesn’t add a premature failure point or leveling issue) is being understated by most reviewers. Changing how each layer of a print is peeled off the FEP by starting the release at one side (as opposed to straight up) should greatly reduce the force required to release the print from the FEP. This should greatly reduce print failures and I imagine less wear and tear on the FEP as well and lowering the risk of a FEP Tear/leak. Just my two cents

About heating, I have Elegoo Mars 3, it have very very small space for something like heater. So I made one myself from 60w PTC heater, 20mm fan from server and cheap controller. It works great and I didnt had any failed prints. This one even have a hole you can use for self made heater and air purifier. But I have questions about auto leveling, how good it will work and why Saturn 3 ultra have 260mm height and saturn 4 ultra only 220mm despite fact it bigger machine.
@Daergard8 ай бұрын
No idea regarding the auto leveling as I don't have one yet (though I do have one on preorder) but I would assume the loss in print height is due to the fact the resin tank only tilts, it does not go up and down like the build plate.

Is the idea to put your fingers bewteen the gap above the printing plate and the hinge when taking it off? Only a matter of time you drop it the way you take it off - no grip there at all. I'd bought one of these 2 days ago, so am glad I didn't screw up and have to try and cancel before they even give me a dispatch date. As to temperature, I'm paranoid about resin cooling, shrinking and separating from the plate so try to keep the entire print volume up to temperature. If that heater unit blows air up it's hopefully doing so hard enough to actually circulate the air. If not you might as well try burning incense in there to appease the machine spirit.

Your Saturn 3 Ultra has no built in heater either? What are you doing for a heating solution for your Saturn 3? You compare keeping using your Saturn 3 Ultra over the Saturn 4 Ultra at the end of your video but it's confusing because the 3 Ultra doesn't come with any built in heating either. @kiriothtv I also have a Saturn 3 Ultra i am planning to replace with the Saturn 4 Ultra and the no heater being such a sticking point from content creators has me confused.
@jaym23818 ай бұрын
If you watch the video again you might just catch the part where he mentions he uses a heating band on the S3U tank, and that the tilting tank on the S4U won't fit that band. As for why a heater, the resins perform best in a certain temperature range. If the resin isn't warm enough to start a print, the chances of failure are way higher. Some resins aren't as bad in lower (like around 18-19C) even though it isn't optimum, but some have higher failure rates if the temps aren't within the recommended. They warm up as the print proceeds, but the start is when the base layer is placed, and if it's too cold, failure is more likely.
@Kirioth8 ай бұрын
I'm glad you're here, for a moment I thought I'd somehow cut out the bit where I talk about the heating band/why it wouldn't work on the S4 Ultra!

Your environment should not be a con for a product. You should get a printer that suits your environment. I live in a desert, heat is a non-issue so the lack of a heater is a cost savings for me on the printer. So its a pro for me.
@Kirioth8 ай бұрын
Heated tanks are becoming more prevalent so while it might seem harsh counting the lack of one as a con, I think it's fair. It's something that can directly impact prints, and other companies recognise that. When you're comparing products you'd be daft not to take your environment into account before you spend your money.
