That he never forgot those lessons, but developed a strong social conscience (that he also passed on to his sons, who naturally grew up more privileged) is one of the things I most admire about Kirk. I met kirk douglas at a book-signing in Dallas in the 1980's. He was in his early seventies and looked like a retired trapeze artist. just seeing him was inspirational. I wanted to say, "Hail Inar, son of Ragnar!" But I was afraid he'd look at me like, what an idiot, so I didn't. I couldn't have taken the rejection. An incredible guy, he speaks very well for a man who had a serious stroke and looks great for 102!! I always liked his pictures and the way he spoke and carried himself. His son Michael was a great extension to the dynasty, also a marvellous distinctive actor with a great voice. We enjoy this story about Gary Cooper but imagine the other stories Kirk could tell about so many fine performers who are no longer with us. A very rare living legend he is.
