Now that he understands the character he has really improved his acting for the character, finally after years admitting he only now learned the backstory of the character, he’s giving shadow the respect he deserves and I’m glad he could finally give it his all for this role, I’m really happy with Kirk as shadow now.

Honestly you could really sense the passive aggressiveness in his words when he brought that up during the panel. You can tell he wanted to say 'I wish they had told me this sooner so I would have known how to properly play the character'.

Kirk has grown up a lot on me recently While David Humphrey still is my favorite English Shadow VA to this day (my english cast favorite is kinda wacky for example, my favorite Sonic is Jason, while my favorite Shadow is David, and my favorite Amy is Cindy, etc.), I still thinks he has done a really good job in Forces and ESPECIALLY in this game, and I think he deserves a spot right next to Jason and David (and Yusa, Shadow's JP VA, my all-time favorite) I normally appreciate every single VA who has worked with Sonic, for example, I appreciate what Ryan, Jason and Roger had done in terms of voice acting Sonic, but DAMN has Kirk surprised me with his job in here!

I don’t usually like Kirk as this character. But as an actor, he is pretty great. So I’ve never thought he was bad or anything. In fact, I think there’s potential if he just gets rid of that growl. The performance never really got the chance to shine until recently,but I always knew that he would do well in that regard as soon as they gave them the chance. I just really need to get rid of and honestly, he would actually be perfect.

Yeah, as resident Kirk Shadow hater i have to say he doesn't... sound that bad honestly. A lot of his delivery is still off, but I tolerated Kathleen Delaney's Rouge, whose entire tenure as the character was defined by her constantly jilted line delivery. Kirk Thornton isn't that bad here--still nowhere near as good as Jason or David though.

Really glad this is happening. Never really been a fan of kirks shadow but that wasn't because of his voice alone, it was also the terrible writing for the character for the past decade so its really cool to see sonic team finally give kirk some good stuff to do and i hope this is the direction they will continue to take in future games that shadow is in.

I really like everything except when he talks to the Biolizard. He sounds like an edgelord poet rather than a Christ-like being that has experienced both the depraved depths and hopful heights of humanity that Shadow is. On another note, have you seen that LEGO video ad with Shadow in it? Unironically peak Kirk Shadow.

he's still my least favourite shadow, it's just a bit too raspy/rough, but he's definitely started growing on me a lil more, sounds very good here I just personally like when there's a more obvious whispery/"soft" quality in a shadow voice, when he isn't angry, anyways

This exactly. He's certainly capable of giving that performance as we've heard in Forces, but he still dials up the gruff just a bit much in a lot of these lines, granted they all sound much better than anything in TSR or the previous games.

humphrey will always be my favorite, though honestly i've never had any particular problems with jason or kirk, they've all done a good job in their own ways. kirk was just a victim of the meta era writing, especially since shadow was one of the characters hurt most by it. i suppose i wasn't always the most picky though, i have my preferences for sonic voices, but most of the cases i have issues with are more game-specific rather than something i can blame on the actors

It's only his voice for Shadow that doesn't work for me, to be honest, Kirk Thornton doesn't even get close to David Humphrey or Jason Griffith. This is my opinion, and if you don't like it, then I recommend not to comment, since I never change my mind about what I prefer. No one can convince me and I won't get convinced, beucase I don't want to. Now if someone agrees with me that his voice is not good... Then comment.

When has Shadow ever shown signs of being "youthful"? He's either been portrayed as a pain filled soul or a grumpy sonic. They have never shown him as young. In fact, he's probably one of the most mature Sonic characters in existence.

Like Roger with Sonic, Kirk is still the worst Shadow voice. Even moreso after regressing from an acceptable and his best portrayal: Forces. I still can't believe he isn't using his Forces direction.

@@fionajaded Direction is not always solely determined by the voice director. Actors can have a say and can influence them. Also, Kirk could still deliver lines better even under the direction he has. He still sounds just like he did in Boom though, which can't go unacknowledged :`) I'll defend his Forces portrayal all day, but he went back to sounding like he always does. Do a video for literally any other Shadow VA, including Prime, and I'll be more positive :D
