I made 4 volumes today using this video as a guide - many thanks!! They turned out better than expected. I did find, however, regarding the angle of the edge that meets the wall, for the first two pieces 45 degrees works well but for the third piece, the angle will vary depending on what dimensions are used for the first two pieces. So, I found measuring the angle the first two pieces makes with the floor (like when they are sitting upright in 2:10) will be the angle of the third piece's edge. I used an angle measure app on my phone which was very easy to do. Of course, if you're not concerned about the volume sitting completely flush with the wall then I guess just do 45 for all edges.

One of the best at home gyms I've seen so far. Great job. I would definitely add the blocks like you showed at the end since you did butt joints. I know it is strong the way you build it, but the added glue blocks would be much increased strength.

Thanks for posting. So much easier than measuring impossible funky angles.🤙

Do not cut the bottom edges at 45 as they will not sit flush to the wall. Cut them at 35 and they will sit flush.

I made the first cut with a 45' cut for the first two pieces of plywood, and then a 35' for the third and final piece and she sits like a beaut!

Nice video (and website). Both have been helpful during the planning stages for my first wall. I have a double deep two car garage with a nice 12 foot ceiling. I hope to start building in the spring (too cold now in Minnesota!).

Stupid question. How do you mount it to the wall?
@kirkearl9 жыл бұрын
Rob Hall Once it is done, just have someone hold it up to the wall where you want it, then using long gold construction screws, 3 inchers ought to do it, screw it to the wall around the entire perimeter of the volume with each screw 6 inches apart. Have the screws go through the volume about 1.5-2 inches from the edge. If a few of the screws line up with studs behind the wall even better.

How much did the wood for the wall cost you?

Just curious what gold screws you use? I've heard you mention them in other videos. What screw's would you recommend for attaching the volume to the wall?

What software could i use for different shaped volumes and getting the angles right?

How did you attach it to the wall?

I used gold construction grabber screws every few inches around the perimeter of the volume. Most of them just went into the plywood of the wall but a few would hit framing also. Either way it was very solid up there.

Literally everything he says here is incorrect. The cuts are not 45deg unless you get lucky. The second piece is not a mirror image. It should be shorter to allow for the overlap at top. And the third end piece most definitely has a different angle cut than the other two unless it is a symmetric pyramid, in which case all the cuts are 35deg.

True. I had some overhang I took care of with the jigsaw. Took an extra minute
