Trapped on a Sunday morning by a broken spring (sounded like a car crashed into the side of my house). I called my friend and he came and helped me lift the door. Thank God for community.

I just used a big rubber band on the end of a philips drill bit. Took seconds to do the job.

very helpful and common sense; incident happened on a weekend at my elderly father's house, and i had no experience with torsion springs and door openers; video turned what was a concerning situation with the only car being trapped inside the garage into a minor nuisance of opening the door with some minor manual effort

Who's idea was the garage door spring ? What a horrible way to open a door ..with pulleys and cable just rig a counter balance box ,and mount it on a wall somewhere on tracks with stops on the bottom and top .. springs nowadays are junk ..and so last century ..its about a 100 times safer ,dinosaur technology ..
