I agree! The black look amazing! In Vancouver we get L&LE for 2WD and XLE with tech package option for AWD. Ordered the XLE standard AWD Heavy Metal 2 tone (only $255 additional for any color 2tone or solid)

i kinda like CVT, theres no jerk when accelerating compared to geared. So I think i'm going to like electric as it is similar smooth acceleration minus the monotone sound.

I prefer the Ioniq 5, but honestly, this one has the familiarity that I'm accustomed to in Toyotas and a pano glass roof. However, this would be a tougher sell to an existing Tesla or other EV owner IMO, especially without a tax credit. But for a Toyota owner, this would be it.

Lowering the steering wheel improves the crash performance. Less arm and collarbone injuries. Arms in a relaxed position also fares better for less injuries.

You are 100% correct. Wireless charging is bad for your phone's battery. Absolutely overheats it. I have wireless charging on my phone but never use it. Wireless charging is a crock of shit anyway. It's not very wireless when your phone is required to be stationary in a single location. When you say wireless when referring to say headphones.....it means it's mobile and functions without being in a fixed stationary position.

I've been using wireless charger for years, I don't know about u but it's awesome. it's fast and the phone doesn't get any hotter than wired charging. phone battery life is also similar too. best of all it's just a simple place to charge no wires needed.

Speaking of Toyota EV, I read the latest news about Lexus RZ450 from Japanese media. Body size is wider and longer than bz4X, but it won't be as big as Lexus RX. RZ will have more battery driving distance, too. The article said that Lexus dealers have been receiving many pre-orders from customers in Japan. RZ could be available for sale this fall in Japan. I look forward to discovering RZ next week. Finally!

Good review. Seems like a nice, well-designed car, especially if you're in the Toyota ecosphere already. Range is a little short, maybe, but probably perfectly adequate for 90+% of the use cases of people looking at it. I do think not providing real 1-pedal driving is a bit of a miss. Just having bought my first EV I wasn't sure I'd use it but I tried it and wouldn't good back to traditional accel/brake driving now.

I like the black version. It's a win-win for me. First of all, the car doesn't looks like bodyshop puts a unmatched color fender, secondly, I don't need to pay for the unmatched color fender (although, it's still not the same color).

Dont like SUVs in general but the look of this car is growing on me. I also like the centre instrument "cluster". Even though it's just another screen, at least it looks purposefully fitted in rather than just a screen sticking up on the dash like an after thought. BTW...how is the air conditioning compared to an ICE powered car? I know home aircons run on electricity but when my car goes into stop start mode, the aircon becomes weaker when the engine is not running. Are these air con systems different? I do hate the twisty gear "knob". The operation of it just looks so cheap and toy like.

Yes very much like how they are in Toyotas hybrids. Since the battery is the energy source for the AC you never have weak points for the AC output

Better than ID.4 except for the Ambient lighting haha. ID.4 also felt a lot bigger and you sat up higher. bZ4x felt zippier despite giving up nearly 100hp. was more nimble in the turns. 100x better user interface. I really liked both interiors. And I think the ID.4 might look a tad better especially with the illuminated VW logo and lightbar.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I am writing to you from Germany. I now want to order a BZ4X, but it has a major disadvantage. The charging power AC is currently 6.6 kW. If you could increase that to at least 11kW it would be perfect because all new cars have a minimum of 11kW. With 6.6 kW, it takes a long time to charge the battery. Toyota has built the battery to last 90% after 10 years and has a guarantee on the battery for at least 70% health after 10 years. The slow charging is to help keep the battery in good health and reliable.

Hi Kirk! Which BEV did you try out before? How do they compare with bz4x? You seem to like bz4x for its instant torque, but id.4 seems to have almos the same hp. id.4 is a bit heavier though. I am asking this, because your reaction feel like: "I have tried BEVs and I think this is the best Toyota can offer in this segment, I do not want to go back to ICE." Do I see this correctly?

Thanks Kirk for the great review. This is the first time I've seen the bZ4X in black body color and it looks cool. You said what I have been thinking all along. The measure of horsepower on the spec sheet that we have used to predict the driving performance of ICVs is not very reliable with electric cars. We'll have to take it for a test drive. By the way, the scenery in California is spectacular. I wish I could drive in California too.

Kirk great review next time you get the bz4x please... 1. Carry out a charging session with Evgo chargers and I want to know if the car preheat to DC fast chargers and if the car estimate state of charge at the end of navigation destinations. 2. Carry out a range test as well.
