It's rather outrageous that Nissan execs think they're on the same level as Honda. If they were doing well, why look for a merger at all? Nissan is not a terrible automaker, but they've been riding on the coattails of much better Japanese carmakers (Toyota and Honda) for decades. People assume Nissan being better than they are simply because they're a Japanese company. In general, they're cars are average. Not god awful, but generally not great either. This is twice in my lifetime that Nissan was in such terrible financial condition that they needed to be saved.
@Get_yottedКүн бұрын
@@kgjung2310Nissan pre Renault was great, I think a ton of people forget that. Yeah there were a few issues here and there but Honda and Toyota weren’t flawless either. The three of them had a great name for reliability. So no Nissan was not riding on the “Japanese cars must be good” they were ridding on their past. Renault complete ruined them by making them the Japanese Renault, in all honesty most European cars are junk to begin with especially the french one’s. The decisions made by the Renault execs to continue using CVTs, and marketing to low credit buyers killed Nissan’s reputation. You can see now that Nissan has some more control they have made some cars that I would say will Toyota in reliability, specifically the new Frontier, an NA V6 engine, lower price, 9 speed transmission. Compare it to the Tacoma that has a Turbo i4 and a hefty price tag, that turbo 4cyl won’t last as long.

The big issue with Nissan’s latest lineup, starting with the Kicks, is that they are jumping on some dumb bandwagons. For example, capacitive panels. They look futuristic and clean, but they are actually not as ergonomical as physical buttons that they implemented in their older designs, as well as physical buttons in Hondas and Mitsubishis. Another example is the turbo cancer. They should have brought their e power to the states so they at least have something to tweak, so it could eventually evolve into something that dimishes Nissan’s needs for turbo

I think your reasoning on Toyota's refusal to invest in Nissan is incorrect. Toyota chose the companies it has invested in specifically for their market placement: Mazda (sporty-Premium), Suzuki (Kei and mini segment), Subaru (rugged - but also stemmed originally for their production overflow agreement in Indiana to build Camrys)... this matches well with Toyota (value/mainstream) and Lexus (luxury). Where would Nissan fit? It doesn't, and that's the reason - not anti-monopoly laws from Japan.

I disagree that the pathfinder is competitive. The pathfinder is bland compared to the rest of the field which is why it makes for a great rental car. The V6 isn’t a huge selling point when your look at something like the Grand Highlander that has a turbo 4 and is far bigger. The Pathfinder only sold 10k units more than the grand Highlander and the grand highlander was on a stop sale for months but most importantly they don’t have to sell these to fleet customers where as about 25% of Pathfinders are sold to fleets.

Imagine buying a Nissan knowing they might not exist long enough to honor ANY of the warranties that they hardly Honor as is. Ya add that to the CVT issues and it's a massive hard pass

If I were Foxconn, I would drop my offer way lower to make them regret rejecting the original offer. After all, Nissan is now desperate.

If nissan slapped a detuned GTR engine in the sentra and altima that would triple sales imo
@caliboyrobКүн бұрын
If they can turn the Altima into a hybrid and offer a Sentra hybrid they can survive. Then soon after make the pathfinder a hybrid

If they’re looking for tech companies to merge with Sony would be their last hope in order to keep the government off of them. If Sony merged with Nissan they could not only keep it a Japanese company, but also expand their EV market if they want to. And Sony sound systems are actually pretty good, so this could work out for both. And maybe Nissan could do something about their bland Afeela car in return.😅

It doesn’t make sense for Honda and Nissan because there is too much overlap.

Probably grabbing a Sentra this weekend! It’s all about out the door price for me. Trying for 20k OTD Sentra SV compared to Civic Sport 27.5k OTD
@ag4engКүн бұрын
Depends how long you keep it and how it’s used. The Civic will hold more value. Look at it over a 60 month cycle and miles used. I agree not taking debt, but cars are not bought very often and last 10+ years easily.

Honda: "We're making the mother of all omelettes, Jack. Can't fret over every egg!" Nissan: "Why won't you die!" Honda: "You can't hurt me, Jack. Hybrids, son. They sell well in spite of market trends"

Kirk theybcan keep all their vehicles .. I truly feel like they should have discontinued the Murano but its here and looking sexy .. The Murano should have been a new QX50 or QX55 .. Either way I dont feel like they should discontinue any of their sedans .. Maybe the Versa or Sentra but Nossan really needs to iut their hybrids in these vehicles .. Today I saw a Nissan Altima Hybrid at the airport and I had to take a photo of it .. Its a rare sight ..
@Lando-kx6soКүн бұрын
Nissan should keep the Frontier, Sentra, Versa, Rogue, Kicks & that's it for the US market. Pathfinder, Murano, Armada, Ariya, & Altima can go. The Sentra is a huge seller so killing it makes no sense

What About subaru or Fuji industries ?
@MusicFromNowhere23 сағат бұрын
Both of these companies made their mark building economy cars. Like all companies, their product got too complicated, relied on rich people who wanted gadgets and gas guzzlers the 2nd owners didn't want to buy, and the costs were ridiculous. Get over yourselves, people. We at the bottom need good cars, not toys.

I was under the impression Nissan already killed all of their sedans.

I think Nissan has been bleeding for awhile and did nothing about it much earlier. They should have reduced their overhead, rescale their production and operations much sooner. Its going to be very interesting if Nissan can turn it around.

If they manage to pull themselves out of this nosedive, they could bring back the Silvia to fight the Honda Prelude.

Nissan should just cull the heard and literally focus on 3 core models for themselves and Infinity. A small sport performance CUV to take on the Acura RDX, maybe based on the latest Murano. Make it look like a smaller FX45 from back in the day. A mid-size C/SUV based on the Pathfinder and lastly an exciting model... something based on the Z. Call it the Infinity SX380 for the 3.8L v6 and SX200 for the 2.0L VC turbo four. Redesign it to look like that concept from a few years back. The one that looked like a modern Datsun 510. Stick the 9 speed auto in all of them.
@dennisscipioКүн бұрын
I highly doubt Nissan will reduce it's portfolio, maybe get rid of some underperforming models, buy they have plans on launching new and redesigned vehicles as part of their business plan "The Arc", that's not changing anytime soon.

I just don’t understand why Nissan is so stubborn about CVTs? If they’re having trouble then why wouldn’t they just make their cars reliable? It would be so easy, obviously the CVT is the point of failure, they had a class action lawsuit for every car that has it. Seriously does anybody know why they’re so oddly stubborn about it?

Pride always comes before the fall, and Nissan is still acting like their value is not 1/4 of what Honda's is... not good for them

Im happy this happened .. Cause Honda was actually trying to do a takeover like Carlos said .. Know you understand why Mitsubishi pulled away and wasn't interested in this merger .. Nissan will survive nonetheless.

Yeah, I have a feeling Nissan will survive. Either it’s bankruptcy and government bailout or an acquisition by Foxconn. But Nissan will survive for sure.

Thank God Honda Stopped this Mess, Because I don't want a French influence in Honda in any WAY 🇺🇸💪
@anthonyng3014Күн бұрын
Do you have no idea what's going on? The reason Nissan is in this predicament is because the French decided to leave after milking Nissan dry. So going forward there won't be any French influence regardless of whether or not Nissan merges with anyone.

No, not really. After Ghosn left Nissan cut their model lineup by 20% and production capacity down from 7.2 million vehicles to 5 million. They also cut Nissan’s investment in EVs and driverless tech, just when Tesla began its rise. It’s true that Nissan was running lean with a lot of sales going to fleet, but at least they had the infrastructure and capability to sell 7.2 million cars as they were planning later to slowly shift the sales from fleet to consumer. People had jobs and Nissan was profitable. That was Ghosn’s strategy. But following executives cut cut cut to oblivion and here’s Nissan today talking about reducing global production capacity down to 4 million vehicles!!
