He was brilliant to watch. A nice guy and a great character. People say a wasted talent, maybe so, but he did his own thing and he enjoyed himself to the full in life. Rip. Great one 🥊🥊

People say wasted talent but British and European champ won a Lonsdale belt outright and a win over Roberto Duran. Not a bad career overall.

@@gaz2251 yes he was very talented. When I was a boy in the 1980’s I used to watch him with my dad and I was a huge fan. His style was like nothing seen before or since! A nice guy too. I’m glad he enjoyed his young life to the full. He achieved more than most pro boxers ever dream of while doing it too. He won’t be forgotten by me in my lifetime. He was a classic. 💥🥊

I've watched boxing for over 50 years, and never seen a British fighter more talented...he didn't fight hands down to disrespect his opponent, but because of he held his guard up it disturbed his balance..apart from his incredible skill level, of equal importance was his patience...he could do nothing for 3 rounds, then see an opening and detonate a howitzer..rest in Peace champ...never forgotten...I salute you sir

He beat the great Roberto Duran when it meant something, and, (then) got knocked out by the likes of Buck Smith - an American journeyman; admittedly, years later. If Kirkland Laing had the consistency and discipline that was needed to go right to the top, he had the talent to get there; however, he was in his prime when Leonard and Hearns were at their peak too. It's true he beat Duran, but, of those three great welterweights of the early 1980s, Duran had the style that suited Laing most - it's still a phenomenal achievement to beat a Roberto Duran of 1982 vintage, but, Leonard had everything Laing had talent wise and then some, and, I can see Hearns stopping him before the final bell goes. Good fight; thanks for uploading.

Kirland Laing should have been able to retire as a multi millionaire solely for the boxing entertainment he provided and revered as a national treasure for being such a nice feller who would help anyone.

crushed in just 5 rounds, very sad rude awakening for poor George realising nowhere near the best in the country especially against a way past his prime Kirkland laing
@dan321134 жыл бұрын
a bit unfair mush, George pushed Gary Jacobs very close over 12rds, who went on to fight Pernell Sweet pea! Also his brother Tony used to spar Eubank in late 80s & more than hold his own!

Remember the Collins brothers well. George and Tony. George was the older, and in my opinion, the better fighter, but he got schooled here. Excellent performance by Laing. George Collins never fought again after this.

@@dan32113 Collins brothers were not bad fighters and only made a brief splash at British level. Never mind world class, they weren't really European class.

Talented fighter who should have been a world champion but didn’t do it. The drugs wouldn’t have helped. Twice was leading against Colin Jones and got blasted out.

Britains most talented welterweight of all time but just too much of a nice guy to make the big time.
@cquilty1 Жыл бұрын
@mickthompson584 Nothing to do with Laing being a nice guy. He was an enormous talent and naturally gifted, but a chaotic undisciplined man who just didn't have the focus and mental toughness to live up to his potential. His latter years and sad premature demise reflect this.
