Fun fact: the name "Nack The Weasel" was actually the name Shinichi Higashi originally wanted to use for the character in Japan. The reason for it being changed was that Nack sound to similar Knuckles, as it's pronounced "Nakkuruzu" over there.

To give credit where credit is due, Sonic Labyrinth does feature one of Robotnik's most underrated plans: He invented a way to slow down the blue blur, giving Robotnik more time than ever to progress his plans. Of course he inevitably falls to his nemesis, but for what it's worth, averting the greatest physical ability of your enemy is a good strategy.

this is the first video of yours that ive watched and this is genuinely some gourmet shit. Voiceover is great (usually youtubers either mess things up and dont fix them or are unconfident,) editing isnt boringly formulaic or brain meltingly dumb, and the topic is interesting.

@@kirotalksyt those years can't be as bad as what Sonic has become since 2003, character wise. I bet by the time SEGA gave up on the Console Wars, they removed every beneficial thing that Sonic was known for within the 10 year lifespan 1991 and 2001. Character Growth, Balanced Gameplay, Great World Building... all gone, and made worse when Sonic X came in. Sonic went in cars for most of the racing games because 1: it's "cool", and 2: it's fair to the other characters. Like for example Big the cat. I know Big wasn't around for sonic drift, but in modern racing games that's the reason.

Sonic Labyrinth is the weirdest Sonic game I have ever played, because everything about it just felt so wrong. There's even a typo in the "Options" section when toggling the floor type from "Straight" to "Slant." The only problem is that it says "Stright" instead of "Straight."

as a European the saturn was a bit different then in the states it did well most people had one until the support stopped them we all got PlayStations instead if they kept up with the euro support things could have been different over here

The reason Sonic drives a car in his racing games is so it's fair for everyone else. I mean you saw what happened in Sonic R, Amy and Eggman aren't even viable options if you want to even think about getting close to winning a race.

Imo, this was the true dark age. I never grew up during this era (thank god) but being a Sonic fan during this era seems so demoralizing. At least during the 2000’s “dark age” the game were unique and somewhat cool, like Sonic Riders and Sonic Rush. Here, nothing if value or fun existed, it’s like Sonic Purgatory.

Triple Trouble is my favorite 2D sonic game. I won't argue that it is objectively the most well made of the classic era, but it is the one I have the fondest memories of, I think. (This was probably because I never owned Sonic 3, but also because I was able to bring my Game Gear with me when we went camping.) I loved Tails' ability to fly and explore, and always played as him, instead of Sonic. Also tthe water stages were made way less of a headache for Tails, due to his submarine. I am glad people still remember that game.

I keep seeing people make the same mistake. Nack was always the original name since Triple trouble was an American developed Sonic game, as you can tell by the Japanese version retaining the zone name "Robotnik Winter". The name Fang was chosen in Japan due to how similar Nack and Knuckles sounded.

I haven't seen the video yet, but I'd say that Sonic's first dark age (or what you call 'awkward phase') began in 1995 and ended with the release of Sonic Adventure 1 in 1998. I say this because Sonic 3 & Knuckles came out in 1994 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles is my most favourite Sonic game of all time. Sonic's second dark age began with Sonic Heroes and continues to this day (with Sonic Mania being a notable exception, in my opinion).

But sonic 3d blast is one of my fav games on sega gen. Sonic 3D Blast was released for the Genesis in North America and Europe in November 1996. The launch coincided with the release of the Game Gear game Sonic Blast, which also features pre-rendered 3D graphics.
