Since Yakuza 1, Dubs, direction and script translations between Japan and the west have come a _looooooong_ way. The actors weren't often bad - they were just doing the best with what they had. It definitely shows here. Look at many earlier dubs, even those in the late 90s to mid 00's and several were quite awkward at times. Even the best dubs had their moments.

Darryl Kurylo was always the ideal English voice for Kiryu the problem with the dub in the first game was the script not the actors. That said, I kinda wish they got Michael Rosenbaum to voice Ichiban since that way Ichi could be voiced by both Nishiki actors.

I feel like a lot of the reason why Kiryu sounds a lot better here compared to the first game's dub is because of the much better voice direction, in terms of vocal performances, to me, one of the absolute best of them at least to me is Kaiji Tang as Ichiban because he absolutely crushes the dramatic and goofy moments of the game.

Kurylo sounds real good in this game. Genuinely surprised they brought him back and how well he fit. I don't personally think Yong was cast properly as Kiryu. Man just doesn't have the gravel or maturity in his voice that Kiryu should have since he's an older guy. I wish Kurylo was back too, however Twitter being Twitter and harassing Yong just isn't right, even if he doesn't sound amazing.

As an old Yakuza fan, I am disappointed that there sure are a lot of sub snobs in here. Imagine if people had the same attitude in 2006 when the original Yakuza was released dub-only - without those fans badgering Gio Corsi into getting Sony to pay for Yakuza 5's PS3 localization, there's a very good chance none of these games would be available in English, dub or not.
