I just bought one from my local Peddlers mall. Glad you made this video. Mine is a little rusty but everything works.

That is a awesome fan. The switch plate also reminds me of the old elevator number plates.

Thanks Marce, it actually does have that look to it.

Where can I get this fan? Many happy memories of its ‘cooling’ in central Illinois summers, way before HVAC!

I got this from eBay.

Dang , I need one of those name plates for mine , I also thought that the blade mounts liked like a Fleur de le , not sure how to spell that lol , nice fan !

I think the last part is "lis". It is neat how that design element was put on a utilitarian thing like a fan blade. Is your switch plate missing or just worn looking?

I have this fan and love it. However o can’t seem to get it balanced just right. At high and medium speeds the fan gets so excited it moves across the floor. Any tips or suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Were are the locations to put oil or grease into the motor? Im restoring one of these fans and when i run it, the motor and switch box gets pretty hot. Is that normal or just a lack of grease?

If your motor looks like mine, lay the fan on its side. You'll see a brass or steel screw at the bottom of the motor, likely on the opposite side of the motor as you look at the switch. You'll need to remove those screws and add about 15 drops of non detergent oil - I personally use Zoom Spout oil. Review my video at around 1:20 - these screws are pointed out by the captions. Hope this helps, but if you have questions I'll try to help. These motors do run warm to borderline hot (around 125 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit) even when well oiled.

Thanks a lot man, you earned a sub.

I would give the switch box a look to be sure you have solid connections. There's a small transformer in there that provides the lower speeds (Medium and Low, it's bypassed on High). That transformer will get warm on Medium and Low but remain cool on High. Thank you for the sub as well!

Alright I will take a look, also were can a find a replacement motor if it goes bad or stops working. It worked before I added the oil but i doubt oil makes it stop working. I turned it on its side to add oil, set it back down turned the knob and the motor doesn't spin. I hear a buzzing noise when i turn the knob and its gets louder when I put it on the lowest speed. I assume the louder the noise the more power is being restricted. btw theres no tag or plate on the motor telling me what it is.

Another KZbin user replaced his with a Dayton motor, so maybe Grainger. Here's his video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5CmiqOuYthooZI That buzzing noise is a loose winding in the motor or speed coil. Re-varnishing those will likely solve that sound.
