great review Bill !! i used to have a vcr boot of this YEARS ago, the quality wasn't impressive but good enough. i'm 56yo now but Kiss was the shit and ruled the would at that time when we were pre-teens and like most fans our bedroom walls were wallpapered in kiss posters and pics. great and easier times way back then. well done brother! \m/ \m/

It’s amazing how great those video tapes look nowadays right? I kinda missed Kiss early on. Being 54 by ‘81 when I began collecting they were off the radar but they’ve been steadily climbing my list for decades now. What’s not to like about anything 70’s Kiss man!

Great video and review for an old venue in my backyard. The Cap Center was Washington DC's large arena venue for all of the big rock shows that came thru during the 70's and 80's. I didn't grow up here but moved here in the 80's courtesy of the Marine Corps and my first show at the Cap Center was the SCORPIONS on the Love at First Sting tour. You sold me, I'm adding this one to my buy list 🤘

Heard the venue name a lot watching Flyers games, and I suppose Sixers too if the Bullets played there. Oh cool first show! A Scorps Costa Mesa ‘84 CD review is in the queue for the coming weeks!

I’ve heard the Largo show from December 1976 from the Rock and Roll Over tour exists out there somewhere. It would make sense seeing this one and the one from the Alive II tour were filmed there at that venue that filmed its shows. I’d love to see that one.

Nice solid review by you. Of all the concert video footage of KISS through the years it would be so awesome to see footage or complete show with Ace getting electrocuted and 1 or any of the 3/4 shows that Mark St John wound up playing. Those I would definitely pay $ for

Nice review. Thanks! I was at this show. First of many KISS concerts, and yes, this one was the best. It didn’t hurt that I was standing up against the plywood directly in front of Gene. Close enough to touch his feet. If the camera moved an inch toward the audience, you would see me and my friend Tony. I am sure the effects on the DVD are somewhat annoying. But, the Cap Center had one of the first arena video screens. So those effects were added to enhance the in-house experience. Would love to find a copy of this.

Great in depth, thorough review! I have to agree on the 'special effects' overkill. There's nothing special about them. Aggravating to the point of growling, "QUIT!" through gritted teeth.
@classicrockmetalreview85238 ай бұрын
It’s a lot. But as far as I recall, the only old show I’ve seen like it. Maybe that’s why it wasn’t part of Kissology.

@@classicrockmetalreview8523 I've despised old school effects since Oct, 1976 when some genius decided it would be 'cool' to spin the frame during DRC when KISS appeared on Paul Lynde's Halloween special. Mind you, I was only 10 yrs old and this was my first opportunity to see KISS on film. I just remember the frustration of the screen rotation. A special place in hell for whoever was responsible for THAT!

First off, great concert! Just a shame you can't see it half of the time. This "would be" one of the great shows if it were not for the RIDICULOUS amount of EFFECTS blocking your view of this fantastic band, at their best! I mean who decides to block KISS in 1975 with a bunch of special effects? I mean, I do like the still shots from the Alive! booklet, and the KISS logo, but it's all just so overdone. When my wife and I watched this one a few months ago, we both agreed: what defines this great concert, is the overt "selfishness" of the Largo crew. They made it about them, not KISS. Either that, or they more innocently got a hard-on for these goofy effects alone...and just went so damn overboard! Like someone said, here ya go guys, have at it! Such a shame. I mean, every time you see "just the band" performing, it feels like "Allllll-right! Here we go, this is great!!" And then, 2 seconds later, its ruined by the effects...again! And this is how it goes all the way the hell through. I will say that this show is indeed unique....but not for the right reasons. So when ya told the one commenter how to find this bootleg, are ya kinda taking a chance at getting ripped off at all? Like sending the money and not getting anything at all. Do ya ever have that happen very often to ya at all?
@classicrockmetalreview85238 ай бұрын
That’s why I always say search the exact title, you can match up the cover too, and several Japanese sites sell them. Someone on eBay is selling lookalike covers with what I suspect are dvd-r copies, although I can’t verify that. The real things come from Japan. I’ve used 4 Japan sites prob a total of 40 orders and never ripped off. Delivery can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks tho. 👍🏼

i had (have?) this video from the VHS tape trading days , and always thought my source , IKE or some other doofus took the liberty of recording the overlayed cheesy graphics. since it was my first traded video that showed this type of overlay. i hated the largo 75 for a long time because of this. but there were plenty of other pro shot full concerts even from Largo that were alot better than the 75 version.

Now that Kiss sold their catalog, we're going to face an onslaught of low quality releases (Like the endless Hendrix reissues ) of every 3rd rate bootleg and 50 year old sound checks on new "collector" releases.
