I've probably said this here in the past, but Billy Squire got a lot of hate for his 'Rock Me Tonight ' video while Paul got a free pass in the 80's dressing like a fruit and prancing around.

Yeah, no kidding dude. I saw Paul on stage, lick his lips, and pinch his own nipple while LOOKING at the camera!! The biggest WTF moment in my life. The wife said, : "Scott, he is fucking gay!!" 😆😆😆

I love Crazy Nights it got me into KISS and led me to buy every KISS album. Crazy Nights was the highest US charting KiSS album for KISS in the 80's. It went Platinum in the US and Canada and was their highest charting and best selling album in the UK with album and first single making Number 4 there so it definitely deserves more respect.

I remember an interview Paul gave in 1988 where he discussed when Bon Jovi toured with them in 1984 and Jon asked him about song writers to work with to have hit songs and he suggested Desmond Child because of the work he did on the Dynasty record. It was an interesting listen.

In 1987 our small town cable company finally got MTV and 13-14 year old me saw the Crazy crazy nights video and liked the energy. I bought the cassette tape and became a fan. In hindsight it’s not a great record but I have a soft spot for it. I’d like to hear a remixed version with less keyboard/synth and more guitars but I doubt that will ever happen.

I never had an issue with Kiss chasing the Bon Jovi/Motley Crue 80s trend as I like the music they have made in every decade that they were active as a band & I can appreciate all eras of KISS. Perhaps even the KISS MTV unplugged concert was them chasing trends yet again too, but I've always loved that album and it really showed another side to Kiss without the bombs and the big stage show

Adam Mitchell co-wrote that one with Paul not Desmond. Desmond co-wrote Bang Bang You and Reason to Live on the album though. To be fair part of Bon Jovi's success was Paul introduced Jon to Desmond. Desmond's first big hit was with KISS on "I Was Made for Loving You"

This tour was my first time seeing KISS. What a strange period looking back. Guys in the audience were wearing these pink, yellow, whatever color of the rainbow silk long tail tuxes I guess you would say. More makeup than their girlfriends. Me and my crew stood there looking like the Ramones were dropped in the capital of planet Bizarro, no shot at hooking up with these girls who now looking back, appeared to be dating taller versions of themselves.

I was one of the 7K in Los Angeles for the video shoot. We got a shirt, and watched mini concert after they got all the footage for their video. As a 70’s baby, KISS could do no wrong (yes former KISStard here, lol) until Mercyful Fate and Venom came on the scene. Then KISS became part of the backdrop until the Reunion Tour. Just glad I grew up when music kicked ass.

You sorta cant blame them for Crazy Nights though. Here they saw these bands that they could destroy on stage racking up hits left and right, might as well go with the flow and go for it as well. Now the single Crazy Nights I always hated, but the others that came behind it I liked. Reason to live,Turn on the night, good stuff. And for me Gene had the best tune on that record, Good girl gone bad. A good sleathy mellow rocker that showcased his laid back style in that one. And holy shit has it been that long?! I remember grabbing Revenge and having my balls rocked with that one. That is Gene, that whole record where he once said he found his balls again when he made that record.

The intro solo on "No No No" & the song "Thief In The Night" were the only things worth hearing on "Crazy Nights" I hated the direction of this album. I liked a few tunes from "Creatures Of The Night" & 2 songs on "Lick It Up" but "Lick It Up" was 100 times better than all the other albums that followed it. "Revenge" only had a few tunes on it. Kiss has been lucky to make a album that has more that two or three tunes on it since "Dynasty."

I loved "Crazy Nights" when it came out but at that time I was all about this stuff, I just got into such bands as Europe, Crue, etc. I dunno, man. I loved KISS when they were trying things, you know. When they were searching for something. I loved the fact that their talent lets them be the best in everything (well, for a teenage fan they were THE BEST IN EVERYTHING). Rock'n'roll, metal, 80s hair glam, disco rock, grunge - they've tried them all and they were amazing in each and every style. Every era had amazing songs and I was proud to be a Kiss fan because it was never boring to be one. It wasn't like being an Iron Maiden fan if you know what I mean :)) Kiss was finished for me when they stopped searching. I can't even listen to "Monster", it's so disgusting for me.

My acceptance for "chasing trends" comes from the real working world. Everybody does "copying". And tries to create a better product. But KISS is still always KISS 💋. "Crazy Nights" is a great album. All songs, especially "I'll Fight Hell To Hold You" and "Thief In The Night" are absolutely Paul and Gene. Bon Jovi? They never meant much to me.

This album seemed to have all the right ingredients to be successful but it just fell flat with people and I'm still not sure why. Ron Nevison had success with Ozzy and Heart at the time, like you said, but there was just something about this album that just didn't land right. It can 't be that Kiss already seemed like old news because Ozzy and Heart had been around for years as well. Crazy Crazy Nights is a hokey and trite song. Reason to Live sounds like a Foreigner song. Bang Bang You might be their second worst song (Ready My Body is the worst).
