Bruce can play Ace, VV, and MSJ faithfully but without copying. Plus, he has his own amazing style. Not to mention he's a terrific person.

100% agree. He’s extremely technical. Not sloppy. Mistake free and can play a solo without butchering it. VV was a butcher. Had to be his way. Ace was the innovator.

I agree with, virtually everything you presented but would place Ace number one for your own assessment. Ace was the flashiest, and during his solo's made sounds come that guitar that noone else could. Improvisation as you called it. He put on a show that the others could not emulate. But I would have to admit, possibly due to his substance use, he could be inconsistent. I am just very happy he became sober. ALL of these members were extremely talented.

Don't come here complain about my list hardcore fans,I don't agree with David's list, but it doesn't mean that I gotta say shit about this or that. It's his opinion, everybody has its own. My list: 5- Tommy Thayer - Great player, since Black N Blue his style was the same, before Kiss he wasn't a Malmsteen clone and then started playing like Ace. For all Tommy haters, he's in Kiss, you're not. 4- Ace Frehley - I love his playing, without him Kiss wouldn't be the same, but I prefer the other guys. 3- Mark St John - Fast, Technical and Aggressive, that's what I want to hear in an album like Animalize. "He couldn't play the same solo twice", funny, listening to him playing his own stuff live sound pretty close, also, don't complain about the Poughkeepsie concert, yeah he missed a lot of things, but as everyone knows, he wasn't completely healthy and it was his first full concert with Kiss. His solo stuff it's pretty cool. 2- Bruce Kulick - Perfect player for Kiss, he could play all the stuff. 1- Vinnie Vincent - Fast, Technical as hell, aggressive as hell, and the best musician Kiss ever had, period. "Aaaaa but his solos are non sense", interesting, it's so non sense that he explains how he composed the solos on his instructional video, also, he played the same thing live. It's easy to judge the guys ability, but go out and try to play some of his solos, or even a song like Love Kills, wich people think its easy. And hey, he wrote Lick it Up, also, he's so bad that he wrote Unholy. Btw, last thing, personal life it's different than musical life. Great video btw. Cheers!

I would agree 100% with your choices. Bruce on lead, Eric or Eric on drums were the versions of KISS that I grew up enjoying. Ace is great too but I prefer Bruce's style better. I'm sure if I had grown up hearing Ace on lead, that I would favor him more than the others. Revenge was/is my all time favorite album thanks to Bruce's axe work

I thoroughly agree with you on Bruce Kulick being the best lead guitarist Kiss ever had! He is incredible! I have actually found Ace Frehley's playing to be a little sloppy on occasion, but he still helped solidify Kiss's sound. Bruce has incredible charisma and his playing style is remarkably phenomenal! From my point of view, the best 1 to 5 for the lead guitarists of Kiss are: 1. Bruce Kulick 2. Ace Frehley 3. Vinnie Vincent 4. Mark St. John 5. Tommy Thayer ~Dutch

The "sound" of KISS was made with Ace's guitar playing and songwriting and he was one of the foundations that built the band. When Bruce played the solos originally done by Ace he did his own version without copying Ace but keeping the same feel to the song. While Tommy can play the Ace solos note for note and is a really good Ace stand in, to me at least he never quite gets Bruce's solos anywhere near as good as Bruce played them live. Tough choice but I would agree with you, Bruce at 1 and Ace at 2, and I first saw KISS in 1980 with Ace and Eric Carr

As a long-term fan.I agree with the list. Because you are talking about musicianship. I feel Bruce had more to offer too. Same with Eric Carr, the concept of KISS was and is 4 Rock Stars, 4 Leads, Where after Ace and Peter left, even without make-up no one outside of Gene and Paul being that focal point. Outside Bruce's one song of Carnaval of Souls, Even the 2 last albums had Tommy and Eric Singer singing and having their own tunes. I wish Bruce and Eric Carr had that because though I love that 80s-early 90s Era. But It felt like even more those guys should have had more in those moments, It felt more like the Paul Stanley band with Gene Simmons just saying hi i'm here. I understand he was doing films, I think a few Eric and Bruce led songs perhaps been a little more stand out in the long term of things outside that is Era they didn't wear the make-up. With Ace I think many of his solo albums are better than what he did in KISS, I do feel bad for Peter he needed a direction musically when was doing solo stuff.

When you listed VV 4th on your list it started raising red flags lol… Thayer is 5 and that's not because he's cuck. It's because he hasn't done anything memorable with the band. 1. ACE, what songs are still played on the radio? ACE songs 2. VV, wrote some of the heaviest KISS songs and his songs are still sung by Gene and Paul in every concert today 3. Bruce, even though you never hear his songs on the radio or none sung in current KISS concerts there still good songs 4. Mark, Animalize is rock solid start to finish and his song is still sung in current concerts 5. Tommy, mediocre songs and none sung at current KISS concerts. He was much better in Black and Blue and needs to go back

Whilst I may have swapped Vinnie & Tommy around (VV 3 & TT 4) I pretty much had the rankings the same as you. I’m a huge Ace fan but have always admired Bruce for his broad talent. I’ve met both and 100% can say my experience with Bruce was far more receptive and fun (& not paid for - aside from the admission cost) as opposed to Ace that I bought the meet and greet tickets as well as the concert ticket. Big let down.

I mostly agree with you. For me there are 2 distinct Kiss eras, Ace’s and Bruce’s. I know Vinnie was there for 1 1/2 records and I love him, but the time spent was too short for me to call it an era. As for Tommy, I respect Tommy as a guitar player, except that he’s never been allowed to be himself like Bruce or Vinnie were. Had Kiss decided to remove the makeup after Ace left in 2002 and decided to go on a new era with Tommy, who knows, it might have been great to see Tommy being Tommy, not somebody else. But we never really got to see the real Tommy like we saw the real Bruce and the real Vinnie. And it’s sad because I think Tommy is a great guitar player who deserved to be allowed to be himself. As for Bruce vs Ace, Bruce is definitely more skilled at a purely technical level. However, I think he lacks the soul and the feeling that Ace puts on a lot of his guitar work. I love Bruce, but he sounds more like a computer playing guitar, so to speak. If a guitar is an instrument to express yourself, I think Ace did it spot on. My humble opinion. Anyway great review and thank you !

My best to worst in terms of overall tone, technique, influence and musicianship... Bruce Kulick, Tommy Thayer, Vinnie Vincent, Ace Frehley, Mark St. John. When Vinnie reels it in and actually plays for the song instead of sounding like a shred-fest, he can put out some really melodic lead lines. Ace should probably rank lower than Mark, but Ace's classic 70's licks defined Kiss's core sound. Therefore, Mark gets ranked the lowest because he was just a shredder who brought nothing unique to the table. Bruce hands-down had the best of everything in terms of tone, vibrato, melody and technique. He knew when to cut loose and when to restrain his playing, and his leads fit the songs perfectly.

I am Ace-biased probably because I am not a fan of most anything after Creatures with the exception of a few tracks off Lick it Up and Animalize (I know Ace didn't play on any of these). I saw Ace once during the reunion tour and Bruce twice during Animalize and Asylum. Bruce is a great guitarist and fits the music they were making in those day very well. I am just not a big fan of most of the songs in that era. Ace was the Kiss sound up until Dynasty when he started slowly checking out of the band. Without him and his creativity with guitar solos and songwriting, Kiss wouldn't have made it no matter how bombastic their live show was. You need good music to have success, especially back in those days. That's why I would swap your number one and two but agree entirely on the rest. Thanks for the great video.

Read Rolling Stone where G&P talk about all of em an my take is that they both speak of Vinnie&Ace a little bit differently from a musicians POV. I respect BK he s a class act but sure don t think he is #1 as to me his playing of the classics is so so but his own stuff is pretty good. Stanley said that Ace has feeling which is a rarity. Both Bruce&Tommy are good but they re even better YESMEN.

I have been a KISS fan since 1978. I’ve been playing guitar since 1988. So I think I have a pretty good perspective. Here’s my list. 5. Ace ( his playing is very elementary, like someone just learning.) 4. Tommy (though I really love tommy) 3. Bruce (I freakin love Bruce and to me HE IS KISS’S GUITARIST ) 2. Mark (wish I could’ve heard more from him) 1. Vinnie ( don’t like him but he is the true shredder) This list is comprised from the technical expertise.

I really appreciate that perspective. I have been a fan since 1975. I was 3! Lol. I’m 51 now. I started trying to learn guitar 6 months ago. It is making me appreciate more the difficulty and time it takes to be even decent at it. Before I “ranked” based on what is pleasing to my ear. Now I’m really starting to appreciate the technical side. I tried to incorporate that into this list. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel!!

If u like theatrics and don't care about how good the guitarist techinically against the others...then its ace. If you want someone who plays better then any of the others...its bruce..and if you like someone that just copies everything that ace did....then its tommy. I'm not even going to mention the others...sorry vinnie.....playing super fast doesn't mean you are talented. Whats cool is bruce is bob kulicks brother...which auditioned for kiss from the very beginning.

Nothing wrong with the list. Ace's problem right from the start was laziness. He wasn't known as a hard worker or a technical guitarist which is why he clashed with Bob Ezrin during the Destroyer Album. Ace's Solo album showcased what he could do but by that time alcohol had started to take their toll. I think Aces best stuff has come from his Solo albums from the last 10 years. Buthe is the OG guy who beat out Bob Kulick at the audition. Vinnie Vincent was probably the best guitarist of the bunch but had a self destructive ego that destroyed his relationships with everyone (including Vinnies Invasion). Mark St. John in Paul Stanley's words was "the Pope you never saw" and never did anything of note after his KISS days. Bruce Kulick was the classiest guy you would ever meet and was a great technical guitarist. Bruce didn't slavishly copy Ace's solos but put his own spin on the old songs. Bruce's solo work has been really good. Tommy is also a good great guitarist but is restricted to copying Ace's style and you would have to go to his Black n Blue era to really hear what he could do.

You really know you Kisstory! Ace had a lot of classic solos. Vinnie couldn’t realize how blessed he was. Mark we just don’t know what could have been. Bruce just came in and solidified the band. And Tommy has been held back by Gene and Paul but has been a consummate professional for 20 years. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel!!

The Best KISS guitarist who wasn't in KISS was Bruce Kulicks brother Bob !.......Played on Paul's first Solo album in 1979 and in Dynasty....he actually originally auditioned with the band but was rejected on how his look wouldn't fit with the band........a pity........I think the all-time greatest KISS Line-up would of been Paul Stanley, Jean Beauvoir. Bob Kulick and Eric Carr.
