I love how professional and honest Ace is when he takes on the question about Peter leaving once Paul was a little stunted. The respect he gives to Eric Carr is also lovely to see since he apparently felt the band (Stanley & Simmons) didn't really see him as an equal. RIP Eric, I only discovered after my small Kiss phase that you were the best.

It's almost surreal watching old videos when the band members were young. They almost had a super hero feel to them and there was so much mystery surrounding them.
"The new album is Heavy!" -Paul Stanley 1980 They released Music From: The Elder. November 10, 1981

The Oath was heavy ntm pretty heavy mood / subject matter but I get what your saying ha
@MENFUSSMIKE Жыл бұрын
They were actually gonna release a heavier album. The working title was Rockin With The Boys. However, when Bob Ezrin was hired he shit canned that idea. While I love The Elder, it was the wrong album at the wrong time. Incidentally you can hear demos from the metal album they were going to release. One particularly cool track was called Loves a Deadly Weapon. Google it. Paul on lead vocals

@pauldunlea3669 I actually love The Elder. No KISS album has grown on me more. It features some of their heaviest and lightest moments. It's definitely in my Top 10 KISS albums.

Kiss the first band ever to say they were A Heavy Metal band even before they were signed. Shockingly Sabbath and Priest didn't accept the tag until the NWOBHM movement as before then it was seen as a derogatory term to describe the music (banging and crashing noise)

@@whataboutrob442 WTF are you on about? He had some of the best songs on Dynasty and Unmasked. We have Escape from the Island and Dark Light on The Elder. The first Frehley's Comet album was great.
@whataboutrob4427 ай бұрын
@MickC2167 By 1980 his songs were very average. Dynasty obviously doesn't have anything to do with my comment. My point was that Kiss could have never made that musical leap into Creatures and Lick It Up with Ace. I mean by Elder Paul was playing more solos than Ace. As far as Frehleys Comet, a lot of those songs were written by other people. My point about being out of ideas. I love early Kiss and I think Aces lead playing was incredible for the time but by Unmasked I just didn't care for it.
@MickC21677 ай бұрын
@@whataboutrob442 Maybe if they had listened to Ace and worked on a hard rock album instead of The Elder, there wouldn't have been such a commercial disaster which required them to go full reboot into harder heavy metal like Lick it Up, which is a such a completely different sounding Kiss that it may as well be a different band. As Ezrin said, "In hindsight, Ace was absolutely right in his feeling that all this concept and drama stuff was bullshit and that we should just get back to Rock 'n' Roll…..He did his best to do his part, but his heart was never really in the thing. It all felt too contrived to him -- and he was right about that then.". Paul will never admit this. He always say something like it's okay for Ace to say this in hindsight...blah, blah, blah. It wasn't hindsight though, he told them at the time it was a a garbage idea and that it would fail. When you watch interviews from around the Elder into Creatures, it's quite plain to see that Ace was miserable. He was always being outvoted 2:1 on any band decision. In some interviews he sounds incredibly depressed. I'm sure a happier, motivated Ace could have come up with 2-3 decent songs every couple of years. As for the point about Paul playing leads, it means nothing. Ace played Bass and Rythm on a lot of tracks too, as they had been pretty much recording separately since Alive II Alive II new songs.
