Kiof members have such different styles (not just dance wise but also visually, vocally, personality, and clothing) , but they mesh together really well! I think that is this group’s strength as it feels cohesive even though every member stands out in their own way. No members are forgettable and their solos definitely show that this is a group where each member can hold their own. More groups should be structured liked kiof!

I didn’t realize it but all the girls having distinct dance styles from each other really helps emphasize their individuality. Not to mention their distinctive voices, looks, and roles in the group. Kind of like four soloists that happen to be in the same group but it works really well. Reminds me a lot of BlackPink actually.

True. Very similar appeal. Kinda funny how you can actually draw some comparisons between the blackpink and kiof members and also kinda how their companies are marketing them. I feel like kiof understand what draws people to groups like blackpink. And unlike others who try to copy their songs and style directly kiof puts a unique spin on it. No one can accuse them of copying because I mean it's kinda obvious that people are drawn to a group of amazing girls with unique styles and talents that look like they are having fun and being free and confident. Small groups are a great opportunity to develop the members unique charm and both bp and kiof understand this

Ikr they themselves admitted how random they were put together as a group with their distinct talents and charms the company has no idea what to do with them as a group what concept and music works the best for them. The strong individualism between the members is what I think one of the biggest reasons they blow up so soon despite being from a small unknown company besides their talents and star factor of course

What's interesting is that all girls come from a different dance background. Julie did ballet and later hip-hop in her teens (a mix of elegance & groove), Natty started doing gymnastics as a child before switching to dancing (which is where her focus on strong & powerful movements comes from), Haneul has been doing idol dancing for a couple of years (while also attending acting school, focus on form & angles) with Belle getting a crash course in dancing and getting pretty good in a short amount of time! But together they form a very attractive group dynamic

I’ve always thought, since their debut, that Julie could be a Main Dancer along with Natty. Tbh though, most of the time positions are just for branding purposes. I think Julie’s branding makes sense as a Main Rapper considering she’s a former YG trainee. Natty’s Main Dancer position makes sense too since she’s a former JYP trainee and was known for her dancing ability. I think the positions are mostly just what the company or the members want to push as their “thing” yk?

in the pH-1 interview, Julie says, her and Natty don't like to everyone doing the same stuff, they prefer each one dance in their own style with their faults, they are human not robots, there are exceptions, but they didn't force all the members doing the same thing. And remember, Julie and Natty have years of trainning. Belle and Haneul only start when they join Kiss Of Life. Julie also have her "Ballet" background from little when she still was in Hawaií.

In the recent vid of Julie's show, the theme was academy, she said, her, Natty and Belle will be only idols but Haneul could be anything she wants, she have more skills than them.

I think something that is very special about this group is that although they do have individual titles, you can see that they all have different styles when it comes to different departments such as dance, singing performing and their solo work. They’re like 4 insane solo artists who have come together to become even more iconic! It’s one of the reasons why I’m becoming more interested in becoming a fan. I do find that even belle and hanuel have certain dances that I personally prefer the way they execute them, so dance is definitely about preference too. I also watched the professional dancers talking about finding the main dancer and I was reading the comments and it’s definitely interesting. Natty is definitely main dancer material, her knowledge of dance is very good for someone who mainly trained to become an artist and her skills were definitely shown when she created sugarcoats choreography. With julie, her style of dancing is also top tier and she aces feminine dances like wow! So I understand why those two can be interchangeable as it’ll come down to personal preference. With only 1 year in the industry, I’m curious as to see how much all 4 girls will grow as they still haven’t showed everything. I saw Natty waacking on twitter the other day and I’m very surprised as I didn’t know she knew how to do that. Belle in nobody knows isn’t talked about enough too as the way she executed the moves was actually quite pleasant to see and Haneul in sticky too! The refreshing and energetic dance really showed her potential of becoming someone even more skilled. I think certain dances are just the style that certain members find more joy in executing so in theory I’d say that kiss of life are on the road to having 4 main dancers in the future!

I do really like how you illustrate that dancing big vs dancing small are kind of antithetical abilities (with skill needed to be acquired to achieve either, even if the more ‘professional’ route emphasises dancing big) Also I LOVE how in KIOF you have 3 perfect examples to showcase the 3 typical archetypes when it comes to gg idols and their grasp of lines Haneul - some grasp of ‘feminine’ body lines, consistent in the typical jazz funk alignment, but overall use of space too restricted for lines to be highlighted in her dancing Natty - tries to use more space but a lack of fundamental training in this area means she is trying match pictures and angles rather than have a continuous unbroken sense of line Julie - understands how to align herself in both the pictures and transitions to maintain a sense of line, obvious that she has been further trained in this way

The "average" tier doesn't mean she dances better than 50% idols or anything, FIF says its the level companies want most their idols to debut with. But it's still impressive how she can keep up with the members and add some flavors from time to time already.

The fact that they have two amazing dancers who are completely different also helps with "hiding" Belle's less advanced dancing and turns it into a charm rather than a negative. The girls really balance each other out and Sticky has proven their amazing compatibility once again.

I wonder why so many idols have stiff torsos/backs (even idols like Kai and Taemin) and why their dance teachers/choreographers don't address it. considering that Belle and Hanuel only had about 1 year of ant dancing training, IMO both are well aheads of others with much more training and experience. Both have made major improvements since debut to the most recent comeback.

I really love Julie's dynamics and artistic style. Although, her arm work is my main issue. She would be on a next level, if she would engage right from her shoulders to her arm, sometimes it could be sloppy and uncoordinated. By fixing that issue, she'd look less awkward. She can also produce power, but she hasn't fully grasp into it, that's why on softer movements, she really does look coreless or awkward. Also, same with Natty, her issue is along with her hips.

I agree with everything you mentioned, but I would still place Natty first because she seems diverse in many styles of dancing than Julie. And she can do them well. She can do clean-cut synconized dances like most K-pop groups, hip hop, jazz, groovy, contemporary, etc. The only place Julie seems to overdance her in is ballet, and groovy dancing which we see in Sticky. Julie's dancing really shines there plus in nobody knows, it fits her dance style. I do believe Julie has the best musicality in the group in terms of body movement. But with normal K pop synchronized dancing she doesn't stand out, while Natty does and she still does it in her own style. Natty is like a manican who can do all styles but incorporates their own groove/style in her dancing. She suits hip hop a lot as a dancer. Julie moves like water, she's fluid and in control of her movements. It's very natural. I do agree Julie could be another main dancer along with Natty, but she already has Main rapper and Leader positions. But in terms of dancing she's on Natty's level, but I feel Natty is more better.
