I worked on the crew for that tour..Every time he hit a drum,he said it felt like shards of glass were in his wrists and fingers..Carpel tunnel is no fun when you're playing 6 nights a week..Yes he lost some skill by not keeping up for all those years but give him a break..Then he started hitting pain pills real bad and that was it...He was done..
