Wicked Lester Was KISS Before They Changed There Name To KISS.

Wicked Lester was a pseudo-psychedelic with a sound similar to Iron Butterfly.

This was from Kiss' 1992 album 'Revenge'... it was an attempt to bring Kiss to a darker, heavier 90's decade. The album did OK (Gold, half million copies sold in US) but Kiss was losing popularity in the 90's because of grunge/ alternative rock. Wicked Lester was the early 70's band that Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley first played in together. They were actually signed in 1971 and recorded an album... but Gene and Paul felt that it was a poor record. So, they broke up Wicked Lester in 1972 and started from scratch... They wanted a hard rock band w/ makeup and costumes and soon hired drummer Peter Criss... After rehearsing songs as a trio, they auditioned lead guitarists and finally found Ace Frehley in 1973 and that became the original Kiss.

Nice throwback! I like their party songs much better, tho. Kiss always sounds silly to me when they try to get too tough.
