Very nicely played🍃🍃🍃 I play her version as well. I'm three months in learning the Kalimba. I've never played any instrument and I'm thoroughly enjoying it! My only trouble is my left thumbnail especially gets a chip-dip (I know, a funny description) in the center of it from playing so much and I have to keep filing my nail down. It looks like your nails are natural, if they are, how do you keep them from chipping?

Congratulations on the three month mark! I think the kalimba makes music so accessible. My nails are natural and learning to maintain them for playing has been tough at times. I still sometimes accidentally trim them too short! Mostly I try not to let them get too long so they don't snag on things when I'm not playing and I file them in a rounded shape so they don't bend as easily (think archway construction). I've seen some other players use clear nail polish to help harden their nails, or an Alaska Pik, but I've never used them so can't really speak to how well they work. Best of luck on your kalimba journey!

@@starlightkalimba Hello! You are so right about the kalimba making music accessible. It's a pretty inexpensive startup to experiment to know if it's something you'll enjoy. Now I'm five kalimba in! Lol! I ordered Ling Ting tines to replace the ones on my first kalimba to make it sound better. It was much less than buying a new Ling Ting. I have the Alaska picks. I cut a pair down because they come too long for what I'm used to as far as my thumb-to-tine placement(distance). I have average woman's hands but my thumb tip is wide. I should have gone Xtra large. I got Large but the sizing is for fingers not thumbs. Wish I'd thought of that when choosing size. I also think I make be plucking too hard. But I'm not going to give up, I enjoy this way too much to stop
