Gene said in the Box Set liner notes this song was written around the same time as Love Gun was written. So potentially (with some wiggle room) this song was demoed in 1977 or early 1978, well before the Solo Albums came to fruition. Ace most likely lifted this for Fractured Mirror. It didn't end up on Unmasked beacause Vini Poncia re-worked the song with Gene and got co-writing credit for it.

According to the Box Set liner notes, Gene played bass and acoustic guitar and Paul played electric guitars (rhythm and lead). Drums were listed as "unknown" and Gene offered no insight as to who it may be with his comments.

They always say "...the demo is way better..." - I don't agree. Love the bass playing though, and the Fractured Mirror parts.....Gene must have just listened to Ace's album.

The "Fractured Mirror" reference is spot on, and something I had never realized before. This song is like a mix of that sound from Ace's solo album and Gene's Beatle-esque turns on his solo album. Not bad at all.

This demo came a year BEFORE “Fractured Mirror”. If anything, Ace copied it in a case of osmosis.

How old were you? I was 10 and my mother bought it for me as a present in 1980. I don't think I even knew about the record until I got it.

Do we have a time frame for when Ace wrote Fractured Mirror? Gene could have easily lifted it off Ace. We'll probably never know who came up with that bit first.

Maybe Gene swiped the intro from Ace (or vice versa). Perhaps that's why it's not on the finished version of You're All That I Want: Ace had already used it on Fractured Mirror.

No question. But if I had to guess, I'd say Ace didn't write Fractured Mirror until just before, or during, the recording of his album. Based on his own admission, he's not the kind of songwriter that will write 50 songs at a time and sit on them for years, unlike Gene, who at times just writes songs for just the sake of writing songs. Ace may or may not have heard this prior to Dynasty, but it's apparent Gene had an arrangement in mind for this song before the Solo Albums came about.

linda version mejor que la del album, aca ya no esta peter criss, la bateria fue grabada por anton fig, quien fue el baterista fantasma del album unmasked, peter criss ya no queria participar estaba muy mal , fue finalmente despedido . Eric carr Dios lo bendiga, entro a la banda e hizo la gira del album unmasked .

El demo fue grabado en 1977, por ende no es Anton Fig el que toca. Probablemente sea algún músico de sesión pago por Kiss o inclusive alguno de sus roadies (según tengo entendido, JR Smalling tocaba batería y tocó en algún que otro demo de Kiss como "Doncha Hesitate")

es este tema es gene ,ace y paul,este ultimo dijo q no recordaba quien fue el baterista d este tema,peri no fue ni peter ni anton fig,quien se unio en 1978 a ace para grabar el disco solista,y luego tocar en los discos dinasty y unmasked,en todoa los temas excepto dirty livin que fue el unico tema q toco y canto peter. para mi esta version es hermosa ,y me encanto desde la primera vez q la oi,x alla x el 2002

This demo displays what was wrong with the album itself. No insult to Vini Poncia who is a damned good producer. He just wasn't right for the band. The keyboards and pop/disco influences he brought made for a few good songs, but in the long run watered down their style, creating an inferior product, which fewer peeps wanted.
