Thank you for the videos featuring scopes under $400/500 - 8-bit vs-12bit-(tempted). They've been incredibly helpful, especially since I'm on a very limited budget. I've been watching and finally got the Siglent SDS1202XE on sale well under $300. The Siglent was my first choice but sort-of out of reach. I went with Siglent since it seemed to be favorable for entry-level-professional and has good following and support from what I could see. In addition, I used AI to help in my decision for my needs. The scope might be overkill as I'm planning on 50s'-2000s' audio/video gear and AM/FM-RF alignments for repair, maintenance and such. But I think 200Mhz scope will be perfect for those RF-alignments. I still have my 70s' Sencore Minuteman 10 MHz oscilloscope used for A/V repairs back in 90s'. What a difference, this ought to be fun! (p.s. Glad I could get it now as I am concerned about proposed tariffs that may be coming soon.) ...Keep up the good work!

I used to have the Rigol 1054Z but sold it and got a Siglent 1104X-E instead. This was mainly due to the fact that it can do bode plots in conjunction with my siglent signal generator, not because I didn't like the Rigol. In some respects the Rigol, although it has a lower bandwith, beats the Rigol, for instance it has way more triggering functions and I found it a little more intuitive to work with (its also a matter of 'getting used to' of course). What the Siglent does do better though in my opinion is the X-Y mode.

I agree, bode plots with a push of a button are great!. I too have Rigol 1054Z which I love. I currently use a client's Analog Discovery 3 for bode plots up to the MHz, Audio and higher measurements to 80+ dB, and 14 bit spectrum analysis up to 50MHz. Same $400 range.

@ssalient I find it takes around $700 to get a PicoScope or DHO900 series to get Bode Plots in an all in one scope. Your Siglent scope and generator probably come in at around this price - right?

#ericksonengineering7011 Thanks for bringing this up. I think the Diligent looks interesting, but it has a very low sample rate (125 MS/s). I doubt the 14 bit is an A/D input. I think that is the spec for the ARB generator, but not sure. The Pro 3000 comes closer to a real scope but then it cost $1295

@@KissAnalog But it still works! Got it from a buddy that worked at a data center and they were literally going to throw it in the trash. I'm old, like closer to 60 than 50 and I was like "Whoa, I'll take that!". I still have the "Material Removal AuthorIzation Form". I really should pop it open and check the filter caps before I use it again. Dual channel 10 mhz. I'm a ham radio guy moving around to GMRS, so something that can do 600 mhz would be more to my liking, but for vintage hifi repair, it still works fine. KD0NTS WRDC898. :)

@@KissAnalog It still works! But has issues, I plan on running through it this weekend. I'm hoping the CRT itself hasn't bit the dust. The backlight is brighter on right upper corner and almost dead on the left lower (Plate adjustment?). The trace slopes down to the right and it's SLOWWWWWWW to warm up, lol (High voltage supply and alignment?). The good news is that I picked up a Sigelent SDM3045X DVM, a Koolertron GH-CJDS66-GB waveform generator and Sigelent 1202X-E oscilloscope. Hopefully I'll be able recoup some of my cost if I get this Phillips up to snuff. Who knows, I may just keep it. I plan on cleaning all the pots first, then check all the caps and move forward from there. Have a great weekend! By the way, you need to check out the German Helles style beer, it's sublime. I'd buy you one, but I'm broke now. ;)

Sounds like you are set and have a good plan. The old CRT scopes have to have the trace leveled occasionally - and if you move as the magnetic field of the earth will effect that. That's why they have the trace adjustment;)

1054Z is great for its age. It's a decade + old. Replaced the first low cost digital scope 1052e.

Yes, it has been around for a long time - which says something about its reliability! This is why I chose the Uni-T for the best scope at this price range now - it is new and has a more updated look and feel.

Great question! Thanks for asking! Mostly because the lowest cost 4 channel, the DHO804 lists for $439 - but it was tempting since it is on sale now. This video will be up for awhile and while it is on sale now for $373 this could change and then I'll get complaints that it is over $400. The UNI-T you are showing is actually a $500 plus oscilloscope ... so not a fair comparison and definitely not under $400 (the 100MHZ version would be but that's kind of an important distinction.
