Europe is a big place though. So maybe not all of Europe...? I don't know just saying.

I am from England and we tip every thing but we are not expected to tip as much as America because a big sum of American food places expect more than their wage in tips in a day because you get payed less over their but get money from tips

tips aren't needed in the UK because there's a national minimum wage. there isn't a national minimum wage in the US, that's why tips are needed. i work for NMW and i don't expect a tip, and no one would give me one (i work at a nursery)
@SpineshatterFilms10 жыл бұрын
No, there's a national minimum wage in the US, it's $7.25 an hour.
@joemvp1110 жыл бұрын
You realize there's a minimum wage in many developed countries but a tip is still expected most of the time. The minimum wage here is 10.25, and a 15% tip is expected
@alfiemacer825310 жыл бұрын
I thought a tip was a way of showing respect and gratitude for the persons help or services ??
@randomness05110 жыл бұрын
SpineshatterFilms oh there is? well then like i said, i'm not for tips because not every NMW job gets tipped. no one would ever think of tipping a childcare assistant yet we do a very hard job
@randomness05110 жыл бұрын
Joe L well why doesn't EVERY low paid job get tipped? why tip waiters and such but not people who work in nurseries looking after your kids every day? i don't expect a tip, and this is why i don't tip. it's not needed

Having been in hotel housekeeping for years I have this to say. Yes, Always always leave the housekeeper something. For one they work even on Christmas, Thanksgiving etc, Those rooms must be clean no matter what day it is.2)They work for minimum wage and really count on those tips. Hours can not be counted on. You may have to clean 4 rooms each one day, to 16-20 rooms on a busy day. So you have no set income to rely on. And lastly, you have no idea the disgusting things that are left for housekeepers. The sticky sheets, bloody towels, poop in toilets, dirty diapers, tampons, dildo's , panties,And the really bad ones take a dump in the shower. They see it all. They deserve everything that you leave them and they appreciate it ..Gifts are also great, A unopened food item, a can of soda etc...And for the record, at least the hotels I worked in, We never ever went through a guests things. Hotels take this very seriously when hiring. Your stuff looks no different than the last occupied room does. And not having them come in and clean is all the more reason to leave them a tip when you do check out as there is that much more work to be done.

Extraordinary people come from ordinary places. You don't have to go to Harvard Sontard. What I have found is that you could be the smartest person in your high school, go to Harvard and be at the bottom of your class because everyone is smart. You'll feel discouraged because you're failing and everyone there is smarter than you. But on the contrary you're at the top 1 percent of people and at any other college you'll be the smartest. I strongly believe its more rewarding to go to a place where you'll be successful and less discouraged than a place where you'll sink in the background (unless you're super freaky genius smart :) If you feel like everyone is better than you, you'll physic yourself out and not be the best Gavin you can be.

Jess F. Just because he didn't have much money doesn't mean hes super responsible now. If by going by Shay Carl's religion, give a man a fish and he will eat for a day teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime then he isn't even following that which he has believed in his whole life. Giving somebody on the street $20 dollars for 30 seconds work is ridiculous, regardless of how wealthy you are.

***** Agreed, except for the fact that in a lot of places, waiters make below minimum wage. It's their duty to try to get tipped, otherwise they're not making much money. I always determine my tips based on service! Sometimes I even tip people who otherwise don't require it just because they were very friendly. For example, on the cruise I just went on, they automatically take off gratuities, but the man who cleaned our room was so friendly we gave extra.

In europe and the UK you don't HAVE to tip waitresses/waiters, but most of the people I know do so because they want to, or they feel the person deserves it. People should EARN their tip, it shouldn't be compulsory to do so.
@amberfast602010 жыл бұрын
Waitresses at most restaurants here do not make very much hourly. They're pay is lower because you suppose to tip. If you don't tip at a restaurant here you're basically an a-hole.

In the UK tipping is most common in food places (cafe's, coffee shops, restaurants) but its usually by choice! In my family we also tip the post (mail) man/lady at christmas, and if we're staying at a family run hotel we usually tip the cleaners if they're friendly and do a good job! My grandma also tips the paper boy! I think its not as expected in most places in Europe, & totally depends on the establishment to whether they're expecting something or not :)
