Looks fun. Wish there was an division or competition where it was more traditional gear with the only cartridges allowed were those with a power factor like 7-08, 308win, 270win, 30-06, and maybe some 6.5's. No tripods, bipods, bags and such just rifle sling and improvised rests. Something more akin to a light hunting setup competition.

Better yet a originals division. Kentucky rifles, wool clothing only and gotta make your own bullets
@darrel155 ай бұрын
NRL requires power factor of 310,000. It’s calculated by bullet velocity multiplied by grain weight. I run my 270 which barely cuts it 🤣

Great vid, I am pretty active with run and gun events in texas and was considering changing up some gear. I picked up a 6arc minifix last month when tag released it. Im still shooting 105g factory ammo and collecting brass for handloads. I got hits at 1100 yards (14 mils of drop with 100 yard zero) this past week, had some wind (2 mils) but definitely consistent at 800 yards and closer. Shooting off a fatboy tripod with the arca rail makes the rifle feel like a heavy bench gun so that helped. I have my dope sheet set pretty well so Ill start working off of sandbags in the next few weekends. I am running a vudu 5-25 FFP and I will say that it is too much magnification for shooting this cartridge but great for glassing. I may move back down to a 3-18 with an moa reticle because my brain math is faster in MOA.

I like more practical competitions. Most of the junk and gear I see in PRS matches reeks of gaming. 18lb rifles with giant pillows attached to the handguard with muzzle breaks that would blow out you and anyone near you ear drums. Scopes with 35x magnification. It’s all hilarious to me. I compete with my hunting rifle and do pretty well. I don’t even dedicate that much of my time to it either.

"Most of the junk and gear I see in PRS matches reeks of gaming" The irony here is that there are about 50x more games that feature regular hunting rifles, than an actual rifle setup you'd see in PRS. They don't have bags, arca tripods, kestrels, send-its, etc in video games.

@@MysticMungusSlungusI don't think he literally means video games. He's saying gaming as in a term that people don't cheat but kind of bend things according to the rules. "Gaming the system"
@MysticMungusSlungus5 ай бұрын
@@thatguy3139 There are no rules regarding disqualifying the use of any of that equipment. It's not gaming the system, it's not even a slight bend. It's all utilized regularly by all competitors, and well within the rules. "Bending the rules" was like when people would put lead weights into pistol mounted lights, back before they were mandated to be operational for some classes. That was a loophole being exploited. Using a bag or ballistic computer aren't loopholes.

I would whole heartedly agree. It is interesting to see guys shoot PRS but none of it is practical by any stretch of the imagination.
@TheMrkiddi5 ай бұрын
The only reason the rifles are heavy and we use muzzle brakes is to mitigate recoil so we can spot our own hits, if we don't we might as well be shooting blind. The bags being attached to the rifle is to save time laying down the bags and free up our hands. I see PRS rifles like race cars specifically built to compete, while hunting rifles are like a pickup truck, sure you can take it offroad, haul stuff with it and do more practical things but bring it to the race track and you won't stand a chance.
