Warsaw Pact pattern armies issue soldiers mess kits, including two metal pots/pans (one shallow, one deep), which can be used to reheat or cook food over a fire or tablet stove. Unless I'm mistaken, the cans in most of these rations aren't designed for use over a flame. Subjected to those kinds of temperatures, the can may release toxic compounds into the food. If you must reheat cans, do so in boiling water whenever possible. Most canned food, including Kasha with meat, is safe to eat cold. Not nearly as good, but safe.
@trentsteel44212 жыл бұрын
When we were issued rations that came in a can we use to dent the can and put the whole can in water and boil. When the dint popped out it would be heated through. Had to be careful the can didn’t explode and you didn’t get splattered with out food when you opened the can.
@gerretoutdoors37102 жыл бұрын
I never got a ration with a can in it. I wondered how to heat one, but even a youtube search didnt give me any useful results. thanks.
@trentsteel44212 жыл бұрын
You know what. Delete boil and add place on top of a hexi stove. Remove after dent pops out shake then carefully pierce the lid. Be careful of hot liquid from the can. Be careful you don’t overheat the can. It can explode. Sorry getting old and mixed up boil in a bag with cooking tins.

Belarus has one of the best quality meat and dairy products in the world in addition to potato. The Kisel is traditional East Slavic dish (it means 'sour'). Yes, it's considered dish and not a drink as it's supposed to be gelatinous. Personally not a big fan of it since childhood, however, it's very healthy and rich in vitamins. So now as a grown up adult, I'll probably put some of them in my bug out pack.

Yeah... and they ALWAYS dry out eventually. I now package mine individually folded into a tiny wad in a very tiny ziplock bag (I mean TINY!). Then, before I seal it I pop in an extra shot of hand sanitizer. Then I seal all four sides with sticky tape. Makes a tiny pkt about the size of a large postage stamp (and don't ANYBODY ask 'What's a postage stamp...'). I have an EDC with 115 items in it... Not too big. About the size of a large sweet potato. Drops into the bottom of my handbag neat as anything.
