These Republic of China (Taiwan) Field Rations are on point. The Type A, B, C, and the self heating "Field Heated Lunch Box" are reviewed in a 24 hour layout. That FRH could heat that meal up even in arctic conditions. Take a food journey and try out some new things, because that's what life is all about.
Also, I made a mistake with the intro title and put it as PROC when it is ROC. My apologies for the confusion, as there is most certainly a big difference. PROC is mainland China and ROC is Taiwan.

@@cicadaknight3048 I dont know much about the ROC military specifically: but on the bright side in highly urbanized countries like Taiwan they often rely alot more on field kitchens so they often get access to fresh food pretty regularly and usually only use MRE's on training missions or sometimes if they're doing humanitarian missions. The Navy and Air Force especially rely more on kitchens then MREs even on deployment and training.

Asian here, that gel packet is very common in Taiwan, every convinence store I've been to in the last decade or so there, has them, they also come in multiple different flavors and nutrients provided. The Grape one is there with b vitamins, there's a peach flavored one that has collagen which is marketed towards woman, ginseng flavor one for energy, thats all I can remember off the top of my head but apparently a lot of people drink the gels as their breakfast.

at least it looks edible, FDF rations largely are not, mostly the main courses are so bad a dog wouldn't eat them. If you got lucky you got the beef goulash which was not good but it was edible and not make you projectile vomit instantly. I brought my own food, mostly instant noodles, it's against the rules but I couldn't eat the crap they gave us.

Great video! Just discharged from Taiwan Army recently. About a month before being discharged, everyone in our unit got a pack of MRE Type C. We were told to consume those because they are going to expire XD The Type C I got contains some yolk biscuits other than maple syrup crackers. The yolk biscuits taste better in my opinion. And instead of dried mango, we got raisin. Chocolate syrup is missing (I don't think I will like it anyway :) ). Seems like what's packed inside is constantly changing.

I was in the Taiwanese Army and I gotta say we rarely ate the MREs. We all receive rationed MREs of course but there was a huge black market of meat and egg products being smuggled in and I mostly relied on those. I never really went to training. A few friends and I just made a bunch of money smuggling in outside food into base.

I love how in the US rations are all field drab with unadorned text, then the ROC over here is putting pictures of cartoon army chefs on each color coded packet.

The US does use colorful and adorned MRE's but those are the humanitarian packages (ones meant for refugees and other civilians). The US did used to have cartoon instructions on some older rations but it seems like they abandoned cartoons in general by the end of the Vietnam War. They've seesawed back and forth over time from green to brown on colors too, likely because the US was focusing its attention on the grasslands and forests of western Europe and the jungles of Southeast Asia and Latin America, until the 90s when Middle East and Africa decided they needed to be the center of attention instead. Maybe once China gets serious about taking up the Soviets mantle of global imperialism we'll see a switch back to green to match the colors of trees and grass of Asia or maybe they'll just switch to grey to match the cities and skies of East Asia.

Instead of eating the rations, what we used to do when we served in Taiwanese Armor Corps was to "CALL IN" the refreshment ladies, 小蜜蜂(The Little Bees), who drove modified pickups for off-road maneuver, and they sell various snacks and drinks, hot food, chill stuff, you named it. It is still a myth to us that they can always get to our location quickly and it seems they know where all the troops are!

@@wanderingwonder111 The one I mentioned was contractors or employees of the army canteen services. Sometimes we met civilian refreshment ladies, too. They are not part of our unit but seemed to be part of the armed force. There was one time the refreshment grandama and her 4WD pick-up out maneuver our M48s under heavy storms on a muddy path. They are awesome!
