I think i would keep the tin with the waterproof box and mybe add a few more things like a poncho and thermal blanket possibly a survival bivy or hammock. That would be a complete basic kit. Thats why i like your videos it gives me ideas and to further personalize based on individual preferences. Thanks bro

I would consider a tin the size of the Esee, Trangia or Polymath Products to be the smallest practical size for a credible survival kit. The Trangia Mess Tin also has a flat lid which hugely increases its practicality. A Victorinox Huntsman SAK has an excellent saw, two knife blades, scissors, etc and is an excellent addition. The saw is used single handed, far better than a wire saw, in case of injury to a hand or arm. The thought of actually cooking or boiling water on that tinfoil is ludicrous, yet most kits throw it in.
@mountainman9712 жыл бұрын
My experience with tins of that style with the seam on the bottom is, they don't hold water. That seam leaks which makes using it to boil water is impractical. That kit is impressive though.

You could ranger band the metal tin to the outside tin.And you could include a survival blanket and a few other things too.And that way you don't lose your cooking element.Or your shelter element

I carry one of these kits in my mystery ranch bag which goes everywhere I go. I managed to add a small bic lighter plus I wrapped it with a hankerchief. It’s complemented with a self made altoids kit plus what else I carry. I love redundancy when it comes to survival kits/ backpacks.

Good video. Leave it to the Brits to throw in some interesting (new) ideas. Bouillon cubes? Brilliant! Condom? (hopefully unlubed) Brilliant. Tampon? Brilliant! Two suggestions - maybe an actual signal mirror and one of those fresnel lens magnifier for fire starting.. Of course a small multitool (even a card tool). I couldn't help but notice the pad from the deluxe kit couldn't fit into the case... seems odd.

Good job. You can get similar waterproof boxes in Walmart and I keep one in the car. A suggested item would be a cut plastic straw and to drink from the water bag. You can use it to store the “meds” you put in the kit.

I like your opinion on small kits. Maybe you could survive with a filled to the top molle pouch but if you're experienced and know how to use the items. But you're right about being prepared in the woods. I see people on tutorials who aren't into bushcraft and survival and they're like "you expect me to have a knife in the woods?". If you do that it's your fault lol. Love your channel and keep up the good work. You're extremely underrated.

Survival is a mindset. "Rescue Dawn" is my all-time survival movie(mostly) because real NAVY heroes always kick ass in the face of mortal danger! So it's how effective is your strategy? What do you have to work with?
@paulwebb94644 жыл бұрын
I love your examination of various kits. You have stated several times that these kits are not end all and perfect , however you have also stated that these kits are only supplemental and are commonly thrown into the bottom of your bag. I believe that it would behoove you to keep these " kits " separate from your main pack and preferably on your person. Separation from your main pack ie / dumped canoe or unable to retrace steps to pack would prove tantamount. Please advise your listeners to adhere to on person carry. Thank you an avid fan.

Nice kit. I prefer the Survive Outdoors Longer line of gear. They have well made kits. Their survival tin is $19.95 US and it's made in America. I have custom kits all over the house and in all five vehicles. But nice kit and good video content.

No blade? Add a blade (SAK Ranger would be my choice), space-blanket ‘tube’ (sometimes marketed as a survival sleeping bag). More water purification tabs. More bandages. Does the metal box fit in the waterproof one? Looks like there might be a removable insert in the orange base.

@laremyzaring85684 жыл бұрын
Does the orange liner come out? Or is it part of the gasket? A lot of the liners are in there to cut down on rattle or for bump protection. There's more space if u can pull it out.

Hey Eric I've been watching your vids for a little while now and I really like what you do. But on this one I noticed you said you lost the ability to cook. I'm not sure how it is where your from but in my area if you know what to look for you can almost find a large flat rock to cook on like the natives once did. Sure it might be a little earthy but it works.

Love all your videos and have subscribed. But it seems to me that putting the kit in your pack defeats the purpose. If you lose or have to ditch your pack you also lose the kit. That's what makes the kit a backup, not a "supplement" for individual lost/ruined gear.

Is it possible that the tin was meant to go inside the plastic container ? You added some stuff, but gave up your tin for cooking and purifying water. Why didn't you remove that orange insert in the plastic container ? You would have had more room for stuff. Either way love your videos. Very enjoyable to watch. The ESEE reviews were great. Thanks for the definition of "Kitbashed". When I was young boy, (Circa 1967) I would buy 3 or 4 model cars (Usually Hot Rods) of the same scale and mish - mash the parts. Never knew I was a Kitbasher.

The one item I think it's dumber than the 'must-have' bottle opener ilare those tiny glow sticks. Not enough to see by. Not enough to be visible from any distance (signaling). You wouldn't be walking more than 10 steps away from your camp at night or you might argue you'd use them to find your way back from a pee. _MAYBE_ as a fishing lure? That's a stretch though. Waste of space IMO.
