The way this communicated the bleak feeling of being out in the cold and snow during combat was honestly great. Just looking at it and thinking about it made me uncomfy, which is definitely a good thing

One thing i'd recommend as someone who lives in a cold climate is that snow builds up in nooks and crannys on vehicles so it could be cool to pack some snow onto the flatter parts of the armor panels.

Probably one of your best paint jobs so far, also I really like the bridge between scale modellers and classic warhammer tank painting! Miniature painters like Night Shift use so many techniques that are applicable to warhammer stuff it's a shame the two communities don't mesh that often. When they do you get brilliant results like you've got!

Like when a master chef makes a simple meal. Without straining his craft with fancy tricks and elaborate embellishments, he falls back on what he knows will work, and effortlessly creates a masterpiece. All it is is an open hatch and a soldier wearing an Ushanka, but I still find it more impressive than the demons and vampire lords.

What I love most about this paint scheme, you proved you don't always have to paint certain parts metallic silver, like the engine, and legs that you see often. This was brilliant. The snow effecet on the base is phenomenal.
@augustinthewakeofdawn17882 жыл бұрын
absolutely love the base on this! would love to see you tackle a regiment like the mud jumpers from solo: a star wars story. i wet weather, muddy regiment would be fantastic to see weathered in this style, and would especially love to see you tackle a really muddy, trench-like terrain.

Since I am building my own winter/vahallan themed army, I would love to see more Imperial Guard/Militarum conversions in the future. I already used the techniques I learned from this channel to give a few officer models fur collars and ushankas. Wonderful work, and I love your panting style. It sold me on the new look of the sentinel. I don't feel like 'Eavy Metal's style of painting the Guard does a good job of showcasing what the new models have to offer, but yours gets the gritty feel of the machinery to come through with out looking messy.

Awesome conversion and paint job, i really like the casual pose of the guy sticking out of the hatch. Im a sucker for more natural or relaxed poses on minis, i think warhammer can sometimes go a little too far with the endless heroic poses. My only slight critique would be i think you should have applied a little bit of snow texture to the walker itself: it looks a little divorced from the base to me. When you operate a vehicle in the snow, you'll find it gets everywhere, and little bits of snow in recesses or built up on top would really sell that these guys are deep in a frozen tundra. Maybe even a little build up behind the open hatch would be cool, like he's tipped it off when he opened it up

Very very well executed, great effects Constructive feedback if it helps…. - I applaud the painting of most metal parts. You’d think in GW land that almost half a tank was bare metal. Good to see you avoided that. But some, especially moving parts, should be bare and could have interacted with the weathering in a cool way? Same for the engine cowling, with some more metal you could have the opportunity for colour / heat affects - the smoke launchers have a bit of a mold line on them - the base is amazing, but really felt like it needed a foot print from the walker in it, breaks the illusion not having one behind the right leg Keep Up the amazing work

This is a fantastic project all around, Pete. There are so many different things here that a hobbyist can take away from this video, even if they don't plan to convert at Valhallan Sentinel: the pilot sticking out of the cockpit, the fur-lined hat, the stencil, the green stuff fabric roll, and the snow basing can all be useful tutorials. I'm just getting started with Astra Militarum. I don't think I'll do Valhallans (I don't want to have to do green stuff sculpting on every single infantryman), but I really like the idea of having a Sentinel with the pilot leaning out.

I've never really liked snow effects on models, I've always seen it as something negative on an otherwise good model. But I like this snow effect ✨ This is the best snow effect I've seen yet, (maybe it is because it looks like snow looks in my area ~ mostly dirty icy slush that's been trodden through?) and it doesn't detract from the model, but adds to it. The scale looks right. It's not uniform, but varies it's consistency as snow does when trafficked through. And you didn't put globs of "icing" all over the model itself 👍

Man I love that slush! You can tell it's the kinda mud/snow that feels nothing like christmas, and a lot more like getting soaked to the bone as the mud sucks your boot right off your foot. However, I can't help but feel you missed an opportunity by not dusting the tank in a light layer of snow, to really integrate it into the scene.
