Putting x’s over your old chapter marking was something the old Red Corsairs did. If you get the 3rd Ed chaos book you’ll see towards the back a dark angel and space wolf in their usual chapter colours but with red x’s over their chapter badges & Aquilas. So I think the Red Corsairs would be a great fit, you can either paint him as a corrupt ultramarine or in red corsair colours. Makes sense too as they’re also primarily sons of Guilliman

What if you mix one of the pauldrons with his original Ultramarine one. Cut them both in half and glue them together, almost as if the original was damaged in combat and he repaired it with a chaos one

I'd say paint him a blue black with gold rather than brass or bronze trim, like the original blue is mid process or darkening down into a black, then pick out the edges with a bright sliver drybrush. As for the obvious modifications paint them steel with a heat bluing effect. Keep the leather a mid brown. Then do any glowing effects as the color of the artifact from the first game.

I think you kind of need to paint Titus in a variant of the Ultramarines scheme. Otherwise, he would kind of just look like a generic Chaos Space Marine. The blue color really signifies it's meant to be a traitor son of Guilliman.

I think you could paint it as gold trim with extra bright cyan blue like how the emperors children went from purple to pink

As for painting, how about a transitionary color scheme, starting on one side with more traditional loyalist SM color scheme that melds or fades into the chaos coloring, giving the visual of the corruption slowly taking hold.

When it comes to kitbashing primaris with chaos, one thing I've noticed is that the extra length of the primaris arms is about the same length as the ring just before the wrist. Makes for an easy snip for looted primaris.

To be fair, Mish Mash, the original sequel concept for the Space Marine game series, had Titus "going undercover* as a Chaos double agent for the inquisition. The thing is, the original producers of Space Marine were going for a "modern shooter" plot line for the mid 2010s, not realizing that this would never work in the 40k setting because this is one of the ways Chaos gets you. So I'm going to say your "what if" is what would have really happened to Captain Titus if they ran with the original concept for the sequels. (Edit: This would also involve Titus diving too deep and realize too late he drank too much of the Chaos Kool-aid to turn back to the Emperor's Light.)

I'll edit my original post with parentheses after my what if comment adding that it would take Titus not realizing he was "drinking too much of the Chaos Kool-aid" before it was too late. I really like the conversation, BTW. If I may add my 2 cents to your color scheme for "Chaos Titus", I would suggest painting him in a Thousand Sons like color scheme because in the alternate CoD like Universe I could see a "certain character" from Space Marine 2 actually being a more sympathetic bad guy archetype that could slowly guide Titus to the path of Corruption instead of being a "cookie cutter-like villain".

I would say for a chaos inspired ultramarine symbol Just do the normal thing and add spikes to the outside Similar to the chaos star on his backpack And if anything for his paint job just Do darker versions of the colors of a regular And replace the gold with bronze, And then you just says he's from one of the alternative heresies like the dorn or lion or gulliman variations As in all 3 of those alternative heresies The poster boys did go chaos And they did go chaos undivided at that. Because in Dorn and The lions heresy They were the equivalent of the word bearers while in the g man heresy It was the white scars that Turned to chaos first

Some Tyranid flying unit wings coming out of the sides of the backpack could have been a cool detail instead of the vent replacement sort of like the old GalVorbak models or some of the demon princes, maybe working them into a jump pack rather than a standard power pack to to give him a twisted jump captain vibe riffing off the beginning of the first game. I actually like Tyranid bit's for chaos in general, a lot of their claws can make for a great stand in for power fist or similar weapons, wings and tails for jump-packs or whips/scourge type weapons and if you cover up the more obvious chitin plates the heads make for some great face mutations.
