Might need your help lich. The friend I usually play against is a huge Tokusatsu mark. Kind of a rare crossover with 40k. He's also a big white-scars fan. Im a big fan of all the badab wars fluff and Mantis warriors are a white scars successor. If memory serves, theirs a bit in the lore where certain parts of each company would theme themselves around different insects from their planet. ...So its hypothetically conceivable that somewhere in their ranks theirs a bike captain with a grasshopper motif on his helmet. Had the idea to gift him some bits or maybe a kill team or just a smash captain on bike to supplement his very small force of scars. Iv looked around for years now trying to find 3d prints and never found any. So if you ever find spare time in your schedule or more likely the mental image of a bike captain kicking ass to the rhythm of Kioshoku Soko Guyver burrows itself into your subconscious, id love to see what you can do with the concept. You seem like the right man for the job.
@TheLichsLaboratory Жыл бұрын
Thinking about the set up my first thought immediately shifts to Kamen Rider with the insect motiff and the motorcycle. I've seen a picture of a Kamen Rider astartes that could be a solid base for inspiration but I haven't personally found any Kamen Rider related bits on 3d printing sites. if I had to wing it though, a Blood Angels muscle chestplate could serve as a general base of the chest, then a majority of the work could be funneled into sculpting/converting a somewhat appropriate helmet to match. Depending on the rider you pick, some have pretty simple helmets like Kamen Rider Black. Kabuto's horn could be cool and not ultra difficult to model as well obviously this all rests on if your toku friend likes Kamen Rider in particular lol. Maybe if he's more into sentai he might be a fan of the Gouraigers? Essentially loosely insect themed sentai but I'd try to weasel out what his favorite toku is before you commit to something 🤔
@blackwolf671 Жыл бұрын
@@TheLichsLaboratory The blood angels muscle sculpt is a great idea. Might start their. Theirs some stationforge 'Socrates' prints and ironically enough some minotaurs proxys that I could pull that off of. I think I could shave off the markings on a tau sword to make a suitable weapon. MkII Beetle borgs helment with something out of the bits box for a horn might be a slightly easier conversion, but Im probably just gonna have to nut up and green stuff out the bug eyes and mandible for a mkVII conversion + a scarf. Thank you! I definitely need to try the proper mixture one day. As for the straps I think pure green stuff wasn't the right move there as you can see some portions where the line imprints are a bit rounded. I think a green stuff+Milliput combo and a sharper knife would've gotten me cleaner edges. Or waiting till it was harder/using a harder epoxy then carving the lines in when it was cured, maybe filing them in with a triangle file even. @The Lich's Laboratory On your spear conversion, you mention your concerns for your spiky bitz. I've noticed something fun that may help with heavily converted weapons! Whenever I'm cutting weapon shafts and blades I look for places Purity Seals could go. They help hide my sins and poorly carved plastic can be covered by sprue-goo. The plastic glue bond of the purity seal crossing the cut components has worked well for plastic kits. The next level of this is strips of metal, or greenstuff as purity seals in cases where resin, metal or random bitz are used in kitbashing. You may be surprised how effective a cut soda can wrinkles up and layered with liquid greenstuff can be painted up as a purity seal!

@@atlanteansummer941 I actually really liked the Death Eagles after I read up on them for this video. Definitely a chapter I want to touch on the future, but you can spill blood regardless just for funsies. Treat yourself yknow? 😎

I love what you did with the spear's blade, I've been getting back into painting after years of not doing it, so I'll be thinking about that when it's time to paint a power weapon.

Just started watching, I never realized how messed up the perspective was on the picture at 3:19. Fulgrim and Manus are like 5 or 6 storeys tall (like, the land speeder is about the length of Manus' wrench…)

Love that you do Successor chapters, I've been looking into to doing Atlantian Spears for my BA army, I fell in love with with the brief lore they have and their colors.

I very much enjoyed painting Atlantian Spears for my "Tyrannic War Veterans" video! They have a very aesthetic color scheme that looks nice and classy😎

Agreed, glad I saw that vid of yours, I was just shocked you said they were a BA successor chapter and I immediately looked them up and I love their colors for their ranks, either gold helmets, or black, or black and gold, it's just so nice compared to the constant red, black, and white I use for my BA. @@TheLichsLaboratory

Adamantine was a magical super metal that Plato claimed Atlantis used and was the source of their military power. Sometime later, Adamantium was coined as a fun little reference to that, and everyone's been too lazy to come up with something else since.

Interesting! Wonder why he didn't go with Atlantium or something. Maybe a bit too on the nose? lol 🤔
@blackwolf671 Жыл бұрын
I think that was Orichalcum actually. (which may have just been bronze) I might be wrong, but I think in ancient Greek Adamant is sort of an archaic word for Diamond. Latin sort of dropped the 'A' at the beginning and the 'T' at the end and used 'diamas', then french put the 't' back on the end for their 'diamant' and by the time it made it into English we just capped both sides with a D for Diamond. I mean, we even spell it with an O but still pronounce it with the 'a'. History and linguistic drift is a bitch like that sometimes. ...Somewhere along the way the old word got confused for lodestone and then brought back by WWII and marvel comics. For real, Let me know if im wrong though, always up to learn new history facts.

Can you tell us what Paints you use instead of just saying the color, it helps more when figuring out how to paint them are selves
@TheLichsLaboratory Жыл бұрын
I intentionally like to be vague on paint names specifically so people don't feel constrained to one brand or shade of paint. That way if I say "red" for example, people can just pick out their favorite red or a red they already have. If it helps, most of my painting uses the Vallejo range, although I use some GW paints and various brands of washes, but I can give you specifics for what I used on a particular model?
@Plasmathedeathjester Жыл бұрын
@TheLichsLaboratory well just saying dark grey isn't great cause there's a million different dark greys of various shades and it just feels better when you say the kind you used in case I ever wanted to buy the same kind

For the dragonspears, you nailed the colour scheme - I've managed to find the same one when I was painting - and for sourcing spears, I have found the Vindictors from Age of Sigmar to be a good source (and currently plentiful as they're in all the starter kits)
