For a laugh i just took a look at the hardware store for the names of house paints. Naming 50 types of off-white is am achievement by Dulux. When will we mini-painters get 'flaked almond' or 'dreamy truffle'

My process for creating my own chapter last year: 1. Pick a color scheme 2. Think about how to wedge them into the lore. Don’t forget to add some mystery 3. Come up with the name 4. Make a symbol that evokes the name 5. Figure out the company and squad colors, which was mostly just to more easily recognize them from several feet away during games (i.e. red company color for infernus marines).

Just listening to you chaps talking about painting is an inspiration in itself. Many of us hobbyists are pretty lonesome dudes while we're painting - I've just spent hours putting together 15 assault intercessors and a shield captain from the Necron box. It's just lovely to spend some time with blokes who are enjoying the hobby.

Not sure if anyone will be even a little interested but there are actually 2 Blue wizards in Tolkien’s Middle Earth lore and the little information that is given about them and the area of the world that they reside in is weirdly enough one of the only bits of the world that people could easily think up their own head-canon/design their own look for the culture and people there as there is so little information about it

Can confirm that my comment on the previous video about getting an army painted was 100% friendly fun. As painting professionals you're also a little trapped because you can't paint armies to a "that'll do standard" that us hobbiests can get away with. Because people will judge your professional offering by your hobby product.

I got some chaos knights to get back into the game a few weeks ago. The plan was to speed paint them for an event so I could play. Then I discovered these madlads and I’ve been enjoying pushing myself on the painting side of things. I never made the event, and I didn’t mind because I was enjoying the hobby. Cheers guys, really inspiring.

When I am starting an army, and brainstorming the paint job my considerations are: Is the intended paint scheme doable with the time, tools and skill set that I have? Efficiency. After a few demo models, and even the first couple units, I am looking to cut unnecessary paint steps. The paint itself. Was that blue or green or whatever too temperamental to get the result I want? Find an alternative. THE BASE RIM COLOR

Love the advice gents. I’ve started a custom chapter myself. It originally started out as a mortifactor projects, but evolved into a Tibetan themed successor chapter. I’ve pulled themes from whites scars, space wolves and dark angels for various aspects from chapter structure to marking guides. I love seeing all these amazing OC chapters being created and it’s one of my favourite aspects of the hobby.

Re: the curse of needing to paint too hard for an army - I've been working on a giant necron commission, the bulk of which is three/four colors, no highlights, no shading and seeing the spectacle of all of them on a table really is a sight that makes you ignore the basic level of most of the models. I've also found that putting something slightly fancy on an easily visible surface can draw attention away from areas that aren't as well developed. On my Eldar jetbikes I tend to do a little freehand pattern on the front hull and putting a bit more effort into that will distract from the parts of the model that are just base/shade/drybrush.

Lads, if you have a chance could you talk about shading? Especially extremely dark or black shading? I feel like a lot of top-level painting, and the GW house style, has near-black between almost every part. It's not something I would naturally do, but maybe I'm not going dark enough? Maybe it's something that's a feature of very neat and clean competition and box art painting. Cheers!

I love rules ❤ 6:24 They hold zero weight now. All Space Marines use the same rules, except for special characters from named chapters. So if you want to take Calgar, you need to be Ultramarines. (Also the divergent chapters have extra rules, but can still use all the normal ones. Thats BT, SW, DA, and BA) 10:36 You could use them with the rules for Intercession Squad no problem. Just not the combi-weapons.

I went through the effort of making my own legion I'm just still working on the lore, I'm using grey knights as the basis for the play style and the starting point for the models and using the space Wolf Horace heresy robot wolf head upgrade, no purity seals no iconography on the shoulders, this is my 11th legion known as the war foxes I prime with black do a nice heavy dry brush of silver over the entire model then I use a Black ink over it to make it almost look like black gunmetal so that way when the light hits it you see it shine metallic and in the dark areas where the light isn't hitting it looks pitch Black then I hit a certain areas in white and then I go over them in Orange and instead of coming up with squadrons and stuff with symbols like normal space Marines have with the arrows on the right shoulder I just put a letter that is supposed to represent what the unit or model is there's an 11 in Roman numerals in the corner of the pauldron and then in the dead center is the letter s for a strike squad as example My librarian his right shoulder is blue with orange trim and a big orange L on the shoulder with the little Roman 11 in the corner my chaplain gets a black shoulder with a white C but he has the hooded skull mask like literally he's the only person in my army that's not going to have the fox head helmet and not a single member of the army is going to go helmet less and yeah for some of the people carrying the Nemesis Force sword a few will have chainsaws just for aesthetic purposes but they're still going to be painted up in the same way which is instead of doing a blue with those lines on it, it is a silver sword with a red ink over it to look like metallic blood to represent demon blood the gemstones on the swords are purple the hand guards are good the handle is blue, orange trim on the shoulders white section of the pauldrons chest has orange certain squads like the interceptors their elbows and their knees and the back of their hands are blue purifiers same things but purple instead regular terminators are painted in the black white and orange same with the strike squad paladin's have the red on the elbows one shoulder with the letter p on it with white crotch cloth and the left shoulder with the legion symbol on every guy is a somewhat tribal head side view of the Digimon renamon, and in the top area between the ears and above the eyes depending on if the person is a paragon / justicar there will be the color matching their squadron and if they are not a paladin unless they are a purifier or a named character like grandmaster voldus or kaldor drago name characters have orange crotch cloth purifiers have purple castellan Crowe even though he's the leader of the purifiers he still has an orange crotch cloth, really makes painting an army a lot easier when you can draw out what the armour looks like and when all the soldiers look the same other than like the interceptor backpack with the prongs on it I can just draw the base unit like the strike squad an The Terminator and then take it to a photocopier for each type of unit and just hit it with colored pencils and maybe add some detail like a skull with wings sitting on top of the backpack and the weaponry on another page. I had been planning on doing a painting tutorial for my guys just to put it out there put the recordings I had got corrupted so I have to wait till I get the next set of guys before I can start over. But the general idea is this legion after one of the xenocides before the heresy a good portion about 5,000 of the 15,000 Marines got lost in the warp alongside their Primarch and launched forward in time about 11,000 years because we know that there is that one ork who went back in time and took his own past self life just so he can get an extra copy of his favorite shootah and we know that the warp can take years for a week-long trip so what's to say that didn't happen like oh it just felt like a few days but here we are 11,000 years in the future my dad is basically dead most of my brothers are either dead or evil and their sons are split up and because we know that the wolf King did kill one of the two lost primarchs we just don't know which one. And so my army is coming back as firstborn Marines dealing with these primaris and realizing that two of the loyal brothers are still alive and kicking so to speak not knowing that Raven daddy is currently in the warp hunting down word bearers Daddy and unlike the rest of thr siblings my Gene sire remember all of their siblings except for like two or three of them because the second and 11th were already gone when Raven and alpha Daddy's were found and so when my gene sire comes back find out about G-Man and the lion and when they each see my Primark their memories get unlocked about them they hug they laugh they drink one of them says I thought you died and then Jean daddy of my army tell them we were on our way back to Terra to resupply at mars and speak to father and uncle malcador about something I noticed those xenos were doing somethings along those lines I haven't fully decided yet and then leader of the Mars talk to my Primark and says we attempted to make primaries Marines of your legion but it wouldn't work for some reason and that is why my guys are still just regular gray night models not just taking primaris models and just modifying them with the new heads now if they are able to do that in the lower and in the game for the real grey Knight models then I will just add something saying oh we were finally able to make it work and then my guys get second born reinforcements maybe some will cross the Rubicon but most won't I just wish that some of the grey knights will eventually get stuff like jump packs and motorcycles because I mean tanks dreadnoughts and giant baby carrier robots are cool but it would be nice you know
@logansama25735 ай бұрын
Deathwing vehicles are all white (Dreads/LandRaiders). Ravenwing vehicles are always black (Land Speeders/Planes). Dreadnoughts aren't all Deathwing. The first ever Lascannon/Missile launcher dreadnought in 2nd edition was famously painted Green.

One thing I would like to know (because its harder than you think to find out as people tend to focus on the creative side) but how do the rules work? Do you pick an established chapter and take their rules wholesale or can you pick and chose bits and dedicated figures? If someone could help that would be great
@AncientWyrm17755 ай бұрын
Chapters don't have rules anymore (mostly). Basically, all Space Marines use the same units and rules, and you can just pick the ones you like and think will fit your army the most. The only exceptions are Black Templars, Dark Angles, Blood Angles, and Space Wolves, who each have several unique units that only they can take, as well as unique rules. They can still take all the regular options as well, so they just have more options.

My suggestion to anyone that gets 90% done and then gets stuck with all the BS trinkets and whatnot. Just pick one or two contrast paints. Paint them all in those and move on. Don’t bother highlighting, shading, nothing. I often finish the armour, the skin, the metallics, and am left with all the BS which I just can’t be bothered with. Just paint it in a darker muted colour with contrast and move on.
