You are hands down the best miniature wargaming hobby channel on KZbin. Your content took me from someone who saw no other choice but to take the models I saw on sprues and in blister packs as gospel to someone willing to slice open the skull of a plastic wizard without a care in the world. I now make my own miniatures and have given them out as Christmas presents to all my friends.

Those North Star kits are so cool, I’ve been messing around with them too. They have a 2000s gw feel and remind me that building models from a kit doesn’t have to be a miserable 3d puzzle that you have no control over the final look of. These rule also happy birthday
@gavinbaker7421Күн бұрын
Lately I couldn't put my finger on why I feel a bit of background disappointment with modern gw minis, but you've nailed it! Those old kits let you do whatever you wanted and let you kitbash to your hearts content! Gonna have to get me some of these north star minis too...
@billiondollarclownfarmКүн бұрын
@ yeah it took me a while too, I used to love building models and it flipped at some point in like 2018 or so and I couldn’t place it for a while. I think the main appeal of warhammer for a lot of people historically was that you get to make “your” army, which is unique to you, and if your ork boy had the same pose and look as every single other ork boy in the world it just doesn’t hit the same. Even if your model is almost exactly the same as everyone else’s, but you swap their head out and you can choose which way they’re looking and how their arms are posed, there’s a huge difference there. It’s still obviously possible to kitbash cool stuff, but they don’t really encourage you to do so anymore, and there’s a lot of magic lost there.

The North Star kits for Oathmark in the UK are good value for the amount of models; not quite as sophisticated and fancy as some brands but very serviceable and characterful as proxies

@@Miscast Honestly, I think how friendly the creators are towards stuff like kitbashing and their policy towards third-party is part of what's drawn people in. That, and the people in charge. There's a strong lineage of work going into Trench Crusade. Personally, part of what drew me into Trench Crusade was seeing how the devs pretty much went "We think this is good, actually" when a bunch of Warhammer gatekeeper chuds got banned from the community Discord server, on account of being Warhammer gatekeeper chuds. And then those dudes cried about "go woke go broke." Wonder how they feel now that TC's made over 5 million USD

Love your work, great job with the new models! You know, the witches remind me a lot of "Magnagothica: Maleghast." It's a new-ish skirmish game written and illustrated by Tom Bloom based around necromancers in a cursed city were nothing truly dies. The whole thing leans heavily into heavy metal, punk rock, and goth aesthetics. Even if the game itself isn't to your liking, I would still highly recommend it for the art alone.
@goblinsuburbКүн бұрын
yooo another banger, keep up the amazing work! you should absolutely 100% keep doing this series! there’s also a fairly new skirmish game i just found called 1490 Doom, it’s still in sort of a beta but i think it’s right up your alley vibe wise (it’s medieval grimdark with deadly apocalyptic fog covering the earth, so lots of knights with cool gas masks)

@Miscast so responding to your "should I keep going" thang- 7 Hells Yes. Would love to see you bash/sculpt a freaky witchy Chorister! I'm actually new to wargaming and points based skirmish stuff. Do I generally need to base the composition of my minis on an actual team in terms of equipment? Or are people going to usually be alright with Rule of Cool so long as I mark which models are which in terms of my loadouts?
@MiscastКүн бұрын
@@deathbypuppermixes For any game I think be as clear as you can without getting in too much of the way of your fun or means imo, that could be modeling the model with what they have, or indicators on the base or emblems or colors, whatever. Don't over think it!

So, something fun about WW1 era guns (Early 1900's to around mid 1920's) is that a lot of folks were still figuring things out like Semi-automatic firearms, automatic firearms, non-cylinder based pistols, and the like. So really, there were a lot of weird, experimental guns that found their way around during the period, so you could more than easily pick weird looking gun bits and just go crazy. After all, what better time to experiment with a firearm twice the size of your body is when you need one that can kill a demon the size of a tank?
