I believe even the disrespect is intentional. Old people tend to get scared when they get yelled at. If they trust the person who is yelling then they are more likely to follow directions so they don't upset them further. It seems like they only go that route when their instructions aren't being followed anyway. I've worked for a legitimate insurance company where we had to call people and set virtual meetings, and it can get frustrating with how hard it is to actually get people to 1) Answer the phone 2) Set up an appointment 3) Actually show up to the appointment And finally 4) Actually buy something And we didn't have obvious scammer accents. My grandpa (who knows NOTHING about technology... old farm guy and never wanted to learn) got a scam call, he had no idea what they were wanting because he couldn't understand them so he unintentionally kept them on the line for an hour because he likes to talk about anything. I educated him on the call... went in one ear, out the other, but at least I tried. 😄
