Alkan wrote some amazing stuff. Shame its not played very often due to its extreme difficulties.

A very refreshing interpretation of this excellent étude. It's rare to witness such economy of pedalling. Your variation evoking the trumpeting of elephants is the only one of the many I've heard that fulfils the composer's dynamic markings. There is much to admire in this performance. Perhaps you know the Douze Preludes-Poèmes by Charles Tournemire or the intriguing piano pieces by Jehan Alain (his études or 'Lumière Qui Tombe D'Un Vasistas' for example)?
What a pleasure to study and enjoy your interpretation of this etude! Especially your version of the XIV and XV variations (trombata) is a delight to watch, at least in my perception. Thank you a lot for sharing this video! Le Festin is one of the most playful pieces I've worked on so far, it's pure joy to go with its "weirdness" - a very fitting complement to this week's series!

Excellent performance! I didn’t know you had so much Alkan in your repertoire.

Well, I am not sure I would say I have these works in my "repertoire", since I just know them from the score but never actually played them. They are not the kind of music that people expect from me in concert; but my videos here are in general not from my concert repertoire, so it seems a good opportunity to present such works to a public.

Very nice performance! What impressed me the most was the part at 7:09 - 7:20 , because it really does sound like dogs barking, and I think you've captured that so well in that variation.

Lately, Alkan has become one of my favorite composers. For many years, it was Rachmaninoff and Liszt; but lately, the music of Chopin and Alkan is always on my mind, as were Rachmaninoff and Liszt

Excellent performance, you're going to make Alkan a lot of friends! I found the variation at 3.03 very attractive and also the theme itself, slightly reminiscent in a funny way, of the theme from Paganini's 24th Caprice, both have the same kind of infectious bounce that's very memorable.

What else to expect ? 😆 Esope is said to have been both subtly intelligent and very ugly : he was "of loathsome aspect... potbellied, misshapen of head, snub-nosed, swarthy, dwarfish, bandy-legged, short-armed, squint-eyed, liver-lipped-a portentous monstrosity," (source Wikipedia bit.ly/3exnXcI). Esope's "feast of tongues" (French "festin" = feast, banquet) is also a very odd story that one can for example read here bit.ly/2XNf1Jh.
