Adding to the Thank You comments, this video helped me rescue my food processor from the trash. This appears like a poor engineering design decision from KitchenAid. Because of a blown fuse many people have probably thrown these food processors out. Thank you again for taking the time to put this together.

Thanks for making this video. Our fuse was blown as well. I figured it would have a self-resetting thermal overload protection - but no such luck, just a slow blowing fuse. Thanks for making this video. It kept this appliance from going to the dump.

Great video, thank you for posting this. I had the exact same issue, verified with my multimeter, and now it is back up and running and I have a couple spare fuses on hand in case this ever happens again. Thank you for this! I'm wondering though, is there any way to put in a resettable fuse for the future so that if it blows, I won't have to go through the soldering steps again? I know nothing about fuses or their specs, so I wouldn't know how to choose an appropriate one.

Leave it to a "modern" manufacturing company to utilize an essentially non-serviceable fuse so the average consumer has to throw the whole thing out. I absolutely revile that way of thinking and doing "business" (I consider it more extortion of the consumer).

Thank you!🎉. Damn the man! Called KitchenAid to ask about replacement parts trying not to spend $8 shipping on a .50 fuse. Course they, "don't support self repair" and wanted to give me $100 off a new one. So wasteful for a fifty sent fuse.
@rickiebobbyify3 жыл бұрын
Hi. I just "fixed" mine with the whole plan of opening its guts out. I'm sure you troubleshot everything but what I'm seeing in other DIY vids and in my case, it's a safety lock issue. Kitchen Aid is a top brand and I can't imagine all these expensive food processors just stop working all of a sudden. I think a good percentage is operator error (not in your case). So my coworker gave me hers because it "stopped working" and she got another one. This weekend, I decided to give it a try. Turns out, Kitchen Aid has a three-tier safety mechanism (maybe 2) with the 7 quart food processor. The top lid has to be properly put on (and can easily not be put on properly) which will trigger a switch to come out of the bottom of the container by the handle. This switch is the key that unlocks the safety on the base of the processor. It's not complicated but if the user isn't paying attention and just willy-nilly snapping things in place (can be in the wrong place), then the safety won't properly unlock. I get how Kitchen Aid would have multi-safety mechanisms in place because who wants to have flying blades in their kitchen? Thanks for the video.
@diytito81653 жыл бұрын
Yes the safety switches are always the first think to check and you're right. It is quite the complicated interlock system. My wife seemed to have gotten the blades seized up doing something and I think the current load was just too much and popped the fuse. Deffinetely recommended the first place to start to be those safety switches. With the blades and everything off it's best to try and push them in manually and see if fiddling there will get them to spin.

@johnchung24573 жыл бұрын
I replaced it and it worked fine for a bit but looks like the fuse blew when the cookie dough I had in it became too thick. Good thing I have a second fuse and will replace again but will make sure I'm not putting anything that will put too much resistance on the motor. Will be ordering more fuses just in case. I'm planning to try a 5A fuse to see if it will fair better. Do you think that'll be safe?
@diytito81653 жыл бұрын
I also keep blowing fuses on ours. I would need to analyze the circuit to know if it is safe. I never recommend upsizing resistors without understanding the circuit
