It looks great I remimber updating my kitchen too. Luckily our cabinets where already white but had yellowed so I had the redone in white. Added new counters we had laminate countertops. And added electric led puck lights similar contours under the counter let me tell you the lightning makes so much of a difference we also added new ceiling lights. We also got a new above range microwave. I sadly however still have the old 80s stove and a old 15 year old dish washer only the fridge and microwave was updated because the old ones stopped working. Appliances get expensive to upgrade so I'm waiting for ours to die. In happy with our kitchen I did add a somewhat noble cabinets with a mismatched counter top my mothering law redid her kitchen so I took the cabinets to add more space to our kitchen I havent gotten around to painting them to match there still brown but hey it cost me nothing to get them so cant complain. I love my kitchen.

I'm not sure if anyone has mention this tip* But when I did my cabinets like that I bought a small sponge roller approx 3in. so it only took two coats of paint to cover and use a brush very simular to the one you used.two days. Med kit. and the sponge roller holds so much more paint..and it's not messy! I love! But you did an amazing job by doing all with a brush!🤛💕😎🌟👍I have a lil age on me..so I try to go the easier route lol but I'm enjoying all your great videos..thanks God bless...Brenda from Nc

I've been in the painting business since 1978. Whenever I do kitchen cabinets I start out with Sherwin Williams Pro Block oil base primer which assures adhesion. For a top coat I use Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel.
@bguy19792 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip Chris. Is spraying required for a perfect finish or can it be brushed and rolled?
@chrisdidonna73862 жыл бұрын
@@bguy1979 I brush and roll using mohair covers. The Sherwin Williams Emerald urethane trim enamel levels off nicely eliminating any brush Mark's. The key is easing up on your pressure when applying it.
@chrisdidonna73862 жыл бұрын
@@bguy1979 another thing I don't do is sand the cabinets before applying the primer. Using Sherwin Williams pro block oil base primer eliminates the need for sanding because it adheres to gloss-surfices. I find it not scientifically prudent to sand out the varnished (polyurethane) topcoat in which all cabinets have. Why one needs to sand down an already smooth surface is beyond my comprehension. Also sanding down the already smooth polyurethane or varnished topcoat on stained cabinets can cause the stain to eventually bleed through the new paint. After all, the existing polyurethane or varnish finish acts as a sealant, sealing in the wood stain. Using a water based primer as a first coat is a big no-no because despite being advertised as a bonding primer it simply doesn't give you adequate adhesion and simply will not ensure that the stain will not eventually bleed through. The biggest culprit causing bleed through when using a water-based primer rests two things. One, it doesn't adhere to gloss surfaces. Two, you are forced to sand before you prime to get a halfway decent adhesion. Remember what I said about exposing the stain beneath the varnish finish. I.do lightly sand the oil base primer, placing very little pressure when sanding. My steps: 1. Prime all the doors while still attached. 2. Remove all the doors after they are primed. 3. Prime and finish the frame. 4. Finish coat all the hinge edges of the doors. 5. Reattach all the doors and then finish coat them. I find it ridiculous to reattach the doors before the paint has fully cured. It is much easier to finish paint the doors when they are up, when they are stable, rather than flip-flopping. After all, the hinge edge has already been painted previously. Eventhough you might get a couple dings here and there (on the hinge edge) when reattaching the doors, a simple touch up on the hinge edge is simple and eliminates the paint flashing out if touching up the whole door.
@bguy19792 жыл бұрын
@@chrisdidonna7386 If I want smooth cabinets, will I need to use wood filler, or will the pro block primer fill in the grain? thanks
@chrisdidonna73862 жыл бұрын
@@bguy1979 The oil base primer will not fill the grain. I use Sherwin Williams Spackling as a filler. It is a petroleum based spackle. Always prime first before filling so the spackle gets good adhesion. Once you've sanded out the spackle it is vitally important to add a goat of primer over the spackle.

We just bought a house that has the same cabinet color finish. We painted our other cabinets in our home we just sold. So guess we will do it again. We used cabinet paint from lowes we deglossed them and then painted with kilz two on each side,then painted them with cream in my coffee they never chipped in the 3 years we painted them no chips. Now we didn't paint inside the cabinets so we layed the hardware inside top and bottom. And numbered the doors inside the hole of the hardware 1,2 ,3, and so on and painted the case . Really looked good can't wait to see how these will turn out.

What a smart idea - to label the doors INSIDE the hole for the hardware! Never heard that before, but always wondered about it & it makes so much sense.

Amazing! it definitely looks labor intensive but well worth it judging by your results.
