I LOVE how compassionate you were while helping them through the process. Many minimalists get a thrill out of getting rid of stuff and can’t relate to people who find the process challenging or even painful. You are so gentle and understanding. You are a natural at this. ❤️

heidishmidi, I was thinking the same thing. I was cringing at all the plastic, but Rebecca just took it in her stride, even though she is into using earth-friendly stuff. She wasn't judgy at all. ♥ She did such a great job helping her friend, without telling her what to do or what to let go of. Beautiful. :)

What a great transformation! I love it. What I love about decluttering is that it's not just for the minimalist. You were still considerate of her wants/needs when it came to things like the wine glasses, etc. I helped my mom get rid of a lot of her stuff to help her move. After she moved, she was like, "I'm still going to downsize". It really is a muscle! haha

My system to keep my kitchen organized is to empty, clean, declutter, and reload one drawer or shelf after I clean the kitchen every evening. It only takes a few minutes, my kitchen is about the same size as the one in the video and it takes me about three months to cycle through the entire kitchen and pantry, then I start all over again. You will get to the point that you can skip a drawer now and again because everything is so clean or organized. Good job of decluttering!
@MySemiSortedLife3 жыл бұрын
Oh that was so fun! I have learnt (the hard way) that the key to truly successfully decluttering is to develop systems and be prepared to do it again - regularly. It really is as you say - like a muscle you strengthen. Thanks so much for sharing! ❤️ Mel in Australia 🇦🇺🦘🐨

A great video and what a lovely family! A good demonstration of what decluttering for a family looks like, and a family that has extended family they like to entertain too. I've decluttered with/for many a friend and some family. It's not easy to make so many decisions in one day about our belongings. Bravo!

Great video!! I would like to share a couple ideas that have worked well for my kitchen... I suggest either using a lazy susan for the spices used all of the time or better yet, use one of the empty drawers. You can purchase spice organizers for drawers. Also, i recently installed giant wooden lazy susans on each shelf of my upper corner cabinets and wow what a difference they make! They have a nice 1.5 inch tall edge around them. Now the entire cabinet is fully utilized. Mine have a flat front so the door can close.

I really enjoyed your video. You are so sweet and such a good friend to guide them in a way that will most likely make even bigger changes in their lives than just decluttering their kitchen. It seems obvious that Dan's habits could have turned into something much harder to handle. Hopefully this will spur on some new habits for their peace of mind and for teaching their children. Taking a picture of sentimental items before donating them was a great idea! I do that too! P.S. As a former hair and makeover stylist, I couldn't help but want to get my hands on you both. You both have beautiful hair, and a new style would really add some pizazz to your lives. I'm just wondering if Steph might be open to trying new things if you ever get to her closet. I hope this came out the way it was meant. I just can't help but see people at their greatest potential and find it so fun to guide people into finding things that look best on them (colors, shapes, styles...). It's similar to organizing in a way - improving the look and function. 🤍
