I couldn’t afford new countertops so I used a product called Daich Coatings. It is amazing and comes in so many different colors and made my plain laminate countertop look like a stone countertop. Very easy to apply.

The new black island is lovely! AND the brown granite counter tops look good. They look better than white would look. Brown with black is a good contrast... You could do the gold handles with the white cabinets to blend better with the counter tops..., and paint the lower cabinets black to match the island, but with all gold handles... I'm sure everyone has their own ideas. When you painted your house you did a great job!

The new island color and gold hardware go really well with the granite top. I know you'd love to replace the top but you did great pulling it all together. Looking forward to the final reveal.

You know what guys? Everyone has a season or two in their lives where there is going to be take out due to remodel, sickness or life’s craziness. I love what you are doing with the kitchen. I have always wanted those deep drawers for my bottom cabinets. One of these days maybe I will get them. Houses need a little freshening. The thing I hate about that is when you do that it makes something else look like it needs refreshening too. 😂

All my lowers are drawers. Best. Decision. Ever! (The contacted said they were to expensive. I said I was too old to feel into cabinets looking for something. I got the drawers!)

I LOVE all of those cabinets! We had the same color cabinets when we moved into our home, with white appliances. We promptly painted them and got stainless appliances. It's amazing how big of a difference it makes. Girl, you have TWELVE people in your home! Don't sweat it if we see some "dirt". LOL I have 4 and struggle to keep up! lol Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to see the finished project! ~ Stephanie

Love all the updates to your kitchen. It’s always a good feeling when you can customize a space and it makes everything flow better for the entire family. I still love that we added simple LED strips under our cabinets.... we did that about 7 years ago, but it made such a difference to be able to see our food prep and when cleaning up! Makes me wish we could do some more home projects!

Wow Sarah, it's amazing what a few updates can do to a room...I love the progress so far and look forward to the vlogs to come. The upper cupboards really elongate the wall making the kitchen look much bigger. Those XL drawers in the island are awesome along with the trash drawer, stylish and functional. Good morning....what a transformation. Sometimes you just need a little makeover. In March of last year I was laid off and decided to change my living room around. I had had the same pictures from when my kids lived with me. I replaced everything including the couch. Talk about a different feel. My next project is going to be my bedroom. New drawers are definitely needed and new frame for my bed. Thank you for showing us your kitchen project.

Kitchen looks great! I live in my parent's home they built in 1985, I have changed things too, making it my taste. If you have Pro Source near you, they are so much cheaper than other remodel places. Just do a little at a time.

DON’T change your countertops especially with the amount of cooking you do!!!! I have white countertops and regret them. They show EVERY speck of dirt and hard to keep clean.

@@OurTribeofMany: Another thing that I regret is not putting in another dishwasher (family of 4). If you can spare the cabinet space, you should consider another dishwasher especially for a family of 12. Good luck on your kitchen remodel.

Everyone has colors they like but I think the counter top looks good with the black cabinet.a lot of people are doing a darker bottom cabinet and lighter uppers.maybe paint your lower cabinets black like the island.check out what Amy Maryon did in her kitchen it looks nice.

White cabinets are awesome! We re-did our cabinets 13 years ago in white and I love them to this day. It is so quick an easy to give them a quick wipe. (or get one of my kids to do it)

That island is gorgeous! That island top looks really rich. You're going to need a library ladder to reach those upper cabinets - ha ha ha Your girls are so darn pretty! Love the snow fort bldg in the backyard, I recall our kids doing it when they were younger, they always had a great time. :)

Wow, the difference in the floor is so striking. I love the grey floors...changing them was clearly the best decision! :D The big, deep drawers on your island are like the ones I have and they are seriously one of my fave things about this kitchen. So useful!

I absolutely lobe the island cabinets. I always wished I had a really nice kitchen witth lots of cabinets. I rent a house where i live downstairs for the last 15 years. Landlord doesn't believe in fixing anything. He gets you all excited what he is going to do and then does nothing but raise the rent $100 more. Its so hard to find a place these days with decent rent. I love your videos and your family life. May all of you be safe and healthy.

FYI, what you currently have is quartz. It’s just quartz that’s made to resemble the look of granite. I work in the industry so i can differentiate stone with just one glance lol

I had my island outlets put on the back of the island to avoid the drawers. I had a 7 week gut of my kitchen. We lived downstairs for kitchen. 💕 We had fast food once a week. No hero here. We ate off paper plates and used solo cups!

It is looking great! Just a tip from someone who installed pure white quartz countertops. They get marked up, they stain, they look dirty a lot. Soooo, if I had it to do all over again I would get the marble look, I think it would be a lot easier to keep looking nice.

Marble is the softest of the stones and definitely a bad option for a kitchen. Quartz is the easiest to maintain and and doesn’t stain internally as it’s non-porous. If you’ve stains and marks, it’s just on the surface so maybe your just not using the right cleaning products. Use Ajax/comet, some water and a paper towel and it’ll all come right off. I work in the industry so trust me, quartz was the best option to go with, even if it’s white. Hope I helped.

It took me 3 years of healthy eating to give up fast food..lol. one little step at a time little by little you change how you eat and you don't miss it :) I've been changing our eating since 2012 way different than it used to be you got this ! It is way cheaper eating clean /one ingredient foods. Love the new kitchen
