I damaged my seal with oven cleaner. Ate away the plumbers putty. I knew beforehand that was a real possibility. Cold again so figured 14 degrees outside I would tackle this again. Just looking for anything I missed. Nice job. And I have a couple of those knives I use for woodworking and marking. Love them.

Great video thank you. My sink is having the same problem with that nut barely threading on all of a sudden and has been such a problem. I consider myself handy but was going to call a plumber but I feel confident I can repair this myself with some help from my not-so-handy husband. ( we don't let him use tools) lol Thanks!!!!

That's nuts lol It's my first time doing plumbing work under my kitchen sink, turns out the nut for the drain also snaps in and out 😂 and I think it's bcuz the pipes are not cut to the correct length, possibly distorting other plumbing parts. Now I got to watch a video on how to cut these pipes.

Good fix … I would high recommend using the thicker baskets they are better quality and seal up better also use drain kits from a plumbing supplier as the PVC is a thicker material and has better seals … no drips means no cabinet and floor damage in your future.. 🇺🇸👊🏼🔨🪚🇺🇸✌🏼

I kinda was in shock at how much basket strainers went up. I feel like they all use to be brass and now they are stainless and pot metal. I need to go see what other supply houses have beside Ferguson. Thank you for your comments Fred. Have a great weekend.

@@ThatFixItGuy Brian I will check what brand I prefer using and I’ll let you know I’ll run down to the shop today and see what the brand name is they are great to use with no flex and yes the prices have sky rocketed since 2020 I think Ferguson is just carrying what they can now to be price competitive… I do get some of my plumbing supplies from them still

Hi, this is an excellent video. The only thing I would suggest is when you are talking about the large drain nut, you need to go into more detail regarding how tight that should be. I actually squeezed out all the plumbers putty before realizing that it was over tightened. I would suggest that with each slight turn that you run the water to check for leaks after all is assembled. Honestly, depending on your strength level, you may be able to get away with hand tightening. However, with that drain wrench you really have to be careful of over tightening because there is not much resistance to adequately gauge the tightness factor. Otherwise this was an EXCELLENT video.

Most basic basket strainers use a tiny bit of stainless steel on the inside and the rest are junk (pot/white) metal. It doesn't take much for the basket and nut to expand/contract or for the threads to literally disintegrate over time. It's surprisingly common. If any moisture gets underneath it's almost guaranteed to wreck the basket strainer

another quality made Chinese part I wonder if it was always loose or loosened over time. I see they have garbage disposer cleaner have you tried those glisten packets; it is fun watching the stuff foam up in sink

Those drain nuts fail frequently, they will split, I've had two in the last 10 years that split in half. Probably made of inferior materials? Also it doesn't help that I purchased both times at big box hardeware stores, I have found that Ace Hardware tends to have better quality products, as well as original parts you usually can't find at big box once they change out models, such as water heaters etc. Good old Ace Hardware usually carries it.

Never seen one with that round collar. I did one that had the 3 bolts on a stamped triangular collar like a garbage disposal mount. One of the ears of the collar bent as I overtightened it. Round looks like a better design.

Yeah this seems to be a better set up than the triangle version. Kohler makes a great version, but it is double the price.

I recommend the style with the large cup underneath that you tighten down with the regular size nut. They're the easiest to install and remove. The big wide nut or the 3 screws make life a lot more complicated

I would have done that, but it was a little too long for this set up. I don’t like those, but have had the cups bend on me as well.

Looks like a good solution for my reoccurring issue. I was curious the brand you're using. I clicked the link you show but its the triangular bracket/flange version. Interested in the round flange version you're useing. ???? Label is not obvious in the video. Or at least not a familiar product that made me go oh that's a ............ i just did this today and mine did the same thing, i thought the threads were corroded away but they are not. very strange. i think that nut stretches over time.

I’ve changed out the basket 3 x’s still leaks. Do I not tighten the basket nut tight enough? As I tighten of course more plumbers putty oozes out so I’m afraid all the putty is gone or should I not worry about it oozing out. The basket and threads are fine, it’s the paper / rubber gasket I keep changing out.3x ‘s! It’s a pain? Any suggestions how tight it needs to be or what am I doing wrong?

careful with tht knife there. Scraping carbon steel against Stainless Steel can cause rust. If down the road you see that it did, and can spot little rust spots, use Iron Out. A good long soak overnight, and it will re-passivate the stainless and strip way any free iron.
