I put the sink in my island on purpose! I love being able to watch the kids as I do the most boring task in the house

Why do you advise against sinks in islands? I am in the process of designing a kitchen, help is appreciated

I think having the sink in the kitchen island is generally a good idea unless the island is very small.

kitchens need to be functional with equipment that lasts and is solid… too many designers trying to recreate the wheel

I completely agree. Too many designers focus on kitchens aesthetics, forgoing all practicality. I do feel the time is right for innovation in the space, but people seemed to be focused on the wrong areas (AI integration) instead of what is really need (rangehoods or downdrafts that actually work!)

I've always thought the sink in the island is a really poor choice. Both visually and practically. Anyone I know who has gone with this option hates it day to day. Basically it always looks messy. My preference would be for the island to remain clear for prep work with appliances and sink around the walls.
