WARNING: After removing the clogged chopper/screen, it is possible (easy) to reinstall the cleaned or new chopper assembly wrong. You can even replace it's cover with that tight groove to hold the screen properly in place, so you can't rely on being able to install that cover. The chopper won't work unless you first get the 4-pronged plastic joint to FULLY engage with the motor shaft; sometimes the spring is not enough to by itself to force that joint into the engaged position and the motor shaft is then able to rotate inside the plastic joint without actually moving the cutter blades. The dishwasher will then clean the top rack very nicely for awhile, weeks maybe (depending on how you pre-rinse food off dishes), until the screen clogs from all the water continuing to flow against/through it WITHOUT THE CHOPPER BLADES ROTATING ( the top rack will then stop getting water flow again). When installing be sure to fidget with manually turning the chopper blade -- while applying pressure toward the motor shaft to push the joint to a fully seated position on the motor shaft. Here's how to tell if you've accomplished this: 1) see whether the cutter blade sits as flat against the screen as it did before installation (note how flat it sits before installing it). 2) manually turn the cutter blade and feel for resistance of the motor (it turns with some resistance when fully engaged vs relatively free spinning of the blades when it is not). 3) while manually turning the cutter blade a little bit, use a focussed flashlight on the very-hard-to-see-into junction of the plastic joint and the metal shaft to see whether the plastic is turning by itself without the metal shaft rotating (when engaged correctly the plastic joint and metal motor shaft must turn together).

The seal for my chopper blade is broken, would this prevent my dishwasher from draining. It works when I reset the panel then stops again.

Hi I bought a new chopper assembly but am not sure if the propeller or impeller is shot? It just has a nub at the tip? I have a whirlpool GU2300XTLS3. thanks

Great job! Thanks for the detailed instructions especially about the chopper assembly replacement. I couldn't have done it without you. Many other instructions from other sites were very unhelpful

Saved me possibly a plumber. I don't know if it was stuck before, but it sounds like a small garbage disposal and I can see water moving into the drain now. Thank you.

Can't even see most of what he's doing. Even 1st step with the clips.

Very helpful. putting in the new chopper is a little more of a challenge than shown. Patience is required. Saved a lot of money by doing it myself. Thank you for making this view available.

Thanks so much for posting. Other videos got me started, but my dishwasher was newer and I needed yours to fully get the chopper assembly out

Thanks for walkin us through, replaced mine by watching and pausing your video. Took me a while to seat the blade correctly, (I Hope)

Thanks - short, sweet & simple. I had no idea how to remove the macerator for cleaning. Saved me $$$ and it seems most kitchenaids are similar in general construction.

Thank you so much! This video was so helpful and thank you for your very clear descriptions of which direction to turn various parts. Especially, the centre of the lower spray arm, which one would think should be turned to the left, but needs to be turned clockwise (to the right). Really appreciate this video. ❤️

Great video thank you, we found what looks like a small drain hose just hanging out when we removed cover. Any help as to where this attaches?

Somehow got the lower sprayer off and now absolutely can't get it back on. The "retaining nut" keeps going down into the assembly and will not tighten around the sprayer. HELP

Well, has he put the food chopper into the right slot? Maybe not. There are two of them, just to confuse people. Did he check to see if the black rotor on the motor actually engages the white prongs of the chopper? Is it possible the prongs have been sheared off the black rotor? This is a problem with the bad design of the Kitchenaid/Whirlpool. They have now abandoned the whole concept of the food chopper and offer a different kind of filter. The job didn't really answer important questions. He needs to do it again and address these questions. I have just installed a chopper with the problems I have mentioned. I will never know if it actually rotates.

He does a video on installing the impeller rebuild kit. Thru 80% of the video his head is blocking what he's doing. Especially how the spring and blade comer together and pump gasket goes in.

Great video. But why does everyone hide the clips on the manifold from the camera?!

Exactly! What was done here? Cause I can’t get past this point. I have no idea what a manifold is.

Anyone got tips for successfully reassembling the chopper assembly? Accidentally took it apart. It's kicking my hide.
