Your video on removing and replacing the grease in a Kitchen Aid mixer was very helpful. I purchased new in 1984 a Kitchen Aid K5SS. After 40 years I figured I better replace the grease. I really only use the K5SS to grind meat. None of the gears showed any wear. Even the Nylon Gear that is turned by the worm gear on the motor is in perfect condition. When I take the machine apart. A small spring falls a nut falls out. I’m like OH NO. But after watching both of your videos. There is no spring and small nut inside the gear box. Then one day before I cleaned the gear box of the old grease and applied new grease. My K5SS stopped working properly,I could smell something electrical burning. I removed the rear cover. Touched the control board and it was very hot. It turned out the control board was burnt out. I purchased a new one from my local appliance repair shop. This is when I noticed that on the speed control panel. That one of the screws was missing the spring and nut. The nut and spring that fell out of the gear box, perfectly matched the other side of the speed control panel’s spring and nut. Can you believe that somehow someone didn’t put the nut and spring on the screw? That the screw never loosened up and my Kitchen Aid K5SS worked perfectly? I would think it is literally impossible for the spring and nut to somehow fall off the screw and end up inside the gear box. When I purchased new in box from Sears and Roebuck the Kitchen Aid K5SS in 1984. Included as a special advertisement was a Kitchen Aid Meat Grinder. The piece that fits in the accessory port,is metal and the rest of the body on the meat grinder is plastic. It didn’t take long for cracks to develop between the metal and the plastic. I epoxied it and the epoxy is doing its job. I knew that Kitchen Aid at one time,made an all metal meat grinder. So I looked on eBay for an old school kitchen aid metal meat grinder. Many are in terrible condition and some had missing parts. The prices are insane. Last month my wife and I went to our Church that was having an indoor sale. That parishioners brought in items that they were looking to sell. As I’m looking around. I see an Old school Kitchen Aid new in box all metal meat grinder. I paid $5.00 for it. The person I purchased it from said they never used it. I believe they didn’t. Because all the packing materials were together inside the box and it appeared the tape that held the box closed was original. Besides the meat grinder with 2 sizes of grinder plate holes and 2 tubes for stuffing sausage casings. Anyway after I cleaned and applied new grease and replaced the control board. I had a hell of a time. Getting the K5SS to adjusting the 60 revolutions a minute. The 30 revolution per ten seconds was real easy to adjust.

Thanks for your videos, I couldn’t have regreased my kitchenAid without them. One note is that I think when kitchenAid make their mixers for the OS market (I’m in Australia) the motor has a different assembly. In my case there were motor parts on both the main body and the top of the mixer and they were wired together and the wiring was short. I had to find a box the right height to set the top of the mixer on, as I could not seperate them.

With as many mixers as you clean and regrease, I'm surprised you don't have a large ultrasonic cleaner for running multiple parts through for bulk cleaning. I use one for my small engine work and it's one of the best investments I've made in being able to maintain my equipment. Completely replaced my parts washer with the exception of parts that are physically too big for the ultrasonic. Then again with this video being three years old, maybe you've got one by now 🤣

Hey quick question for you? Is the original grease black or white? I bought a used unit, and when I disassembled it, the grease was very white. I suspect the previous owner tried to regrease it and fix parts of it, but the lady pretended like they didn't know about any issue at all.. I didn't buy it. Isn't the factory grease black? And very white grease would be very freshly greased??

@@PaulAmor 99% sure it's the gear, if you got one off of amazon they immediately break free under a heavy load and spin around the bearing that they are molded to, replace the gear with oem (we offer them) then your issue will be rectified

@@MrMixer316 Awesome, I've got a bowl lift model. How often should the grease be changed in a light use situation in a home model? I saw somewhere that said yearly but that seemed a bit overkill for a model used maybe a couple times a month.

would brake clean be alright to use on the gears?
@pdongy
@pdongy 2 ай бұрын
Please do not use brake cleaner on any kitchen appliance. Brake cleaner usually has some pretty nasty stuff that I believe to be carcinogenic. If anything, use isopropyl alcohol and just let it dry very well before you reassemble and plug it back in.
