Welcome back to another mission video guys, this week I link up with good mate Sam Light to see if we can finally complete the kite boat rounding of the Isle of Wight. This is our second attempt at this challenge and is still and NBD (never before done) in one single sail. It is a tough challenge to circumnavigate the island, over 70 miles of open ocean, with some of the worlds strongest tides to negotiate. As many times as I have sailed around the island, it never ceases to amaze me as to how technically difficult it is... back to the drawing board for some boat modifications before the next attempt!!
We hit a storm, with winds upwards of 35knots, big waves and rain. It wasn't the ideal day for it, but we learned a lot about the boat and how we can make sure we smash it next time!!! If you have any ideas for extreme challenges this season, let me know in the comments!

Will be interesting to see if you can retry to make it all the way round. Although, according to Sam Lights KZbin channel he is thinking of charging people who want to go on futuristic adventures in the Millenium Falcon - so this might be your last free trip on it.

Really great effort! I reckon a Hurst start is easier to get the back of the Isle done first while you have the energy and as the wind builds in the day get the lee on the north side later...

Yea that would be our usual start spot… quite like the fact that the needles is half way point tho, would make the Finnish a lot easier 👀🤟

Dude, I’ve now seen both your and Sam’s video on this and both times was wondering why you elected “standard” length lines? I have no basis to back this up, but wouldn’t longer lines help?

Yea we left out the whole line discussion… and in many ways that is why we didn’t make it as we where late to leave. The longer lines, had too much stretch as they are pulling the weight of the boat. Causing the front lines to get longer, shortening the back lines and un-trimming the kite… so we went standard setup length…
