Total respect for this lad and his first mate, a respectful interviewer, no arrogance, just mutual respect and understanding of the huge differences between vessels but the same passion for crossing oceans no matter what size, and how long it might take. Each has its own merits. Nice one Centurion!!

I'm a native English speaker, sometimes I take it for granted, but it blows my mind I can get on KZbin and watch a Swedish guy and a Polish guy have a wonderful intelligent discussion about sailing, yet I can understand it and follow along and enjoy every bit of it. Well done! You deserve standing applause. Bravo to both of you.

I am Polish, I have been to almost 50 countries. When traveling, I always speak English. I know I make mistakes, but people understand me. For many people, English is their "second/third" language. The Polish language has a very, very rich vocabulary. We think in Polish but we try to say it in English. This is very problematic. The most important thing (in my opinion) is to understand each other.

At first I thought we would learn about a stunt sailor but it turns our we learned about a safe sailor. A stunt sailor makes a clearly dangerous voyage in a clearly dangerous boat. Maritime rescue services then have to risk their lives and spend public money to save the sailor if he gets into trouble he has brought upon himself. But Jakub is clearly a responsible guy who has done a magnificent job building and sailing his boat.

@TrueFact I think you may be jumping to quickly to a sad conclusion. Yes the nuts and bolts holding the keel appear small, but there was no indication of how those were imbedded in reinforcing material like fiberglass and other compounds. Certainly a survey is in order for whoever buys the vessel.
@AntiVaganza
@AntiVaganza 2 жыл бұрын
@TrueFact Proper KZbin comment... The ballast, according to the plans is 170kg. I count at least 6 bolts. If anything this is overengineered. Yes, he could have used bigger washers or a stainless plate but I have raced hard on similarly sized, small keelboats with more ballast, less keel bolts (not even spread out like these) and this is on boats that were built in the 70s and have been raced hard for decades. As long as there's no rot, those bolts will hold up fine and 170kg/8 - even when falling off waves - wont "pull the bolts throught the wood".
@AntiVaganza
@AntiVaganza 2 жыл бұрын
@TrueFact I didn't race a boat in the 70s, I raced it decades later as it was a very strong fleet and the older, best hulls were actually, pretty thin... They were OK at the keel, but nothing spectacular. He shook the boat down for three months in the Baltic with tons of wind and while he did build this one, he didn't design it. I'm pretty sure a naval architect did. And yes, I would probably cross an ocean in this boat if I had gone through the phases of getting to know it as he did and especially if I had built it with that purpose in mind. So, I for one, will stop being another youtube expert, disagree with you and wish him good luck on his next build.

What commitment from a fine young man. It makes a difference when you are young and have a goal in life. Very balanced and grounded young man with the courage to stretch himself to an adventure in his self made chariot of the sea! I love the way you interviewed him, gave him the central story with respect and admiration. It was great to see you sail with him and feel the power of the wind in his small but well crafted boat. Great interview! Thanks so much. Sadly, not surprised to see a fair share of haters here doubting his skills, his boat, his everything. So many couch sailors and armchair experts it's depressing, but then again, this is KZbin so it's totally OK to doubt anyone's achivements - especially when they are more profound than your own. How about showing some respect or at the very least having an open mind? Just because it is not your cup of tea does not make what he did dangerous , reckless or ill-adviced. He knows what he can and can not do and he knows his boat better than any of us - he BUILT it for God's sakes. And shook it down in very tough conditions. Finally, I personally believe that people who know how to sail small boats in adverse conditions make for better sailors. End of rant. Thanks again for a great interview and well done to Jakub!

Microcruisers are very capable craft, and this one is actually at the larger end of the microcruiser spectrum! The Polish Designer has a well earned reputation, and this beautiful compact craft shows why. The 10mm hull is extremely strong, particularly in such a compact sized sailboat, and the boat inspires confidence both in its construction and capabilites. The builder has done an outstanding job, with meticulously precise attention to detail and superb craftsmanship throughout. To have built one's own sailboat and sailed the Atlantic is a phenomenal achievement, and the Interviewee is a phenomenal person! Self built sailboat sailers tend to be calm, considered people that go about their daily lives without fanfare, and this man just gets on with it in an unhurried manner and does it really well. Thank you for this great interview.

Mad respect mate. If I may add it feels this is getting like a competition out there where the smaller boat you find to cross the pond will get you the most views (talking in general on youtube). This is due mostly to todays amazing reliable weather forecasting but also a good share of luck. If things turn for the worst these boats are just not prepared to handle what nature has to offer. Stay safe and happy sailing
