Great advice! 3-4 hours in and I'm upon the foil (north speedster) doing runs of 500m+, all thanks to this video. Great tips, especially moving the hips not shoulders. Transitions are next.

hi, your advice is spot on! keeping the back foot over the mast and learning to ride the board with the foil under the water has really progressed me. I very much appreciate your time in making this video

Very helpful, thank you! Particularly the point on rear foot placement. It may also help people to conceptualize the mast as a keel - like on a sailboat - and sailing is all about keeping the vessel flat on the water in order to capitalize on the surface area of the keel presented to the water vs the force of the wind.

I’m having trouble water-starting I.e. getting on the board. All the videos talk about what to do with feet placement after one is already on top of the board, but rarely about getting started after just getting into the water.

My lift foilboard doesn't have holes for a strap on top of the mast. They are all behind the mast. Does your rule of "back foot on top of mast" apply to the MHL Lift boards too?

This speaks in general about any foil. You can have your foot behind the mast, but this will require more front foot pressure to balance the foil. The mast is the fulcrum point of a foil and by placing you back foot above the mast, you decrease the pressure required to balance the foil.

2 straps vs 1 strap in the front?
@kiteboardingcom1

One strap, two straps or no straps, it is all a matter of comfort for the rider. most of the shop riders here use only one front strap while foil boarding, though we do have a strapless foil boarder here as well.

Kiteboarding.com Could you do a video with info on a Canard style hydrofoil for kiting? I've seen one recently at my local beach, just wondering why all the main brands have adopted the 'standard' foil type we are all now familiar with rather than a Canard style? Any info appreciated Thanks Jeff

Actually you should not place your backfoot over the mast but over the main wing. Not all foils have the main wing directly under the mast.

Foot over the front wing? No way. Back foot over the mast , front foot equidistant in front of the front wing. You are finding the balance fore and aft over the wing, allowing you to creat the perfect amount of lift to foil at a constant height. Tell ‘em Jeff.

@@kytsrfr1 Well yes ...I did not explain that properly. What i meant was that not all front wings are at the same distance from the mast and therfore the reference to place your feet is not the mast but the main wing. And also bear in mind that not all main wings have the same hydrodynamic center and therefore the reference to place your feet is not necessarily equidistant to main wing (for example, I have an old Gong foil and your back foot must be placed over the main wing to balance it)
