Your videos are the best, you cover such simple content that others never think to cover. Before this video, I never considered practicing water starts with one hand... Now I am going to do it every time I go out.

When flying with one hand in the center position i always taught “move elbow up and elbow down” to steer the bar. You have more range of motion and strength than just twisting your wrist to steer. This technique is especially good for women who have less wrist and hand strength.

It's amazing how instruction changes over the years with technology. When I learned (2002), it was absolutely not considered sane to let go of the bar at any point (not in control, in gusts they tended to go nuts), hitting the QR was an absolute last resort as they often jammed (when we eventually got them, initially we had no release and we fashioned our own from Wichard shackles) hovering the kite at 12 was a cardinal sin due to lofting risk (walk up the beach was always done with the kite as low as you could keep it) and board leashes were the norm. These days it's a lot more chilled, but I do miss the board leash.

Why is the board leash gone?
@NoSkills2660 Жыл бұрын
@@tomporter114 because people get badly injured by it.. when you crash with a power kite.. you go first and than the board comes flying in.. hits everything on its way what it may be.. even happens without leash but that’s more bad luck than..

This is also useful practise for learning to waterstart with a strapless foil board when having to use your free hand to hold the above water edge of the board in the correct position until you have dived the kite!

i have found that instead of water starting with one hand, it helps me to pin the board with my elbows against my legs and stir the kite with both hands while waterstarting and then transition to one hand while i have gained some speed.

I find it easier to place the rescued board over the top of the centerlines between harness and the bar. Then balance the board under each elbow allowing you to ride 2 hands on the bar still

You should teach how to carry an extra board by hooking the the board on the bar using the handle with both thumbs . It’s way easier than the one hand.

Why do I have a feeling it would be better for me to use my back hand for waterstart? (right hand when going left, left hand when going right) Thanks for the video!
@kitesurferlee2 жыл бұрын
You need to move hand on bar to make the turns faster on water start for more power twisting won’t cut it
@kitesurfcollege2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marek, you can definitely use the back hand if that works for you. That would probably help you face the way you're riding etc. It doesn't make too much different using front or back hand I'd say. In some clips I'm using front and some back. I think I generally prefer to steer the kite with my right hand.

Thanks for this vid which describes a quite commonly needed maneuver ! I have no issue with the kite control, but more with the 2 boards with strapless boards, especially to keep mine in good position during the waterstart, when there are quite good waves! Any clues?
@kitesurfcollege2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nicolas, I find that a directional board can stick to your feet, ready to waterstart, if you keep some power in your kite (you would need the bar pulled in in stronger wind, or need to steer the kite around a little in lighter wind). For sure, doing that while carrying a board would be a significant challenge. I'd start by doing lots of directional-board waterstarts where you don't grab the board by hand.

Hello Serdar, it was a "shoot" backpack. However, the arm snapped off and I had to build a new one.

Good day! I have a one questions! Could you says - what is this the kite spot where are a lot off videp was made?
@kitesurfcollege2 жыл бұрын
That's a wave/tidal pool on Noordhoek beach. When the waves are over 6m (very common in winter) then they flood across the beach. It's a great spot but it's gone now until next winter.

Pink eye!! Or worse. Quite a few people have suffered terrible injuries by getting the board submerged while the kite is still pulling strong, until the tension in the leash is finally high enough to pull the board out of the water -- and fling it directly towards the owner.
