One key point Mike left out of this very informative video, be sure to shout 'Nyeeeow' mid rotation to be sure to attract the attention of whatever Hotties (or just ya mates to be fair) are in the area... just make sure you stick the landing!

Great video Mike (as always)! I remember when I started with rotations and in particular transition rotations where the hand changes, I would have to tell myself out loud: FRONTHAND or BACKHAND so I wouldn't get confused. And I still use this technique. So glad to see a video addressing this because it has saved me some brutal crashes being aware of the hand relationship to kite position. 🤚🏼

Point 3 is exact what I was looking for after my last crash 😅 Thank you so much to explain me perfect what the Problem was !! I was afraid of doing such a jump again but now I know what I can train to make it send next time ! Thanks😊

#3 is invaluable, hollyy!! just getting into doing tricks while jumping, and losing control of the kite once im rotating has been one of my main issues, becuz i couldnt figure out why and how i was steering the kite wrongly into it crashing every time. with this logic, im pretty confident ill be landing those tricks finally! wish i could double like this video!!

Hi, I tried thinking of forward / backward (instead of front / back hand) yesterday on the water and it was really useful, it's way easier to correct the position of the kite thinking like this. Thank you for sharing this advice. ❤❤

Hey Mike, very interesting topic. About the training muscle memory, here is what I learnt through being a kite instructor and this thing changed how I approach and teach beginners and it's making a lot of sense from what you explained: flying a kite (in a dynamic or static way) is giving an order then a counter order. So if you pull left, sooner or later you'll have to pull right. Then if you have pulled right, sooner or later you'll have to pull left. We can also say it your way: if I pull back hand (to jump), sooner or later I'll have to pull on front hand (to land or send or do a front hand heli loop), then I'll have to pull back hand again (if I went for a send). Hope this can help a few !

Awesome Video Mike!! Cannot wait to work on this. I am an older guy (59) and I do back rolls, front rolls, dark slides etc. been working on doulbe backroll but i have been having a hard time keeping the kite over my head on the second rotation. Like you said, very disoriented on the 2nd one and end up with the kite drifting behind me. Kite Tomahawks and I end up landing hard. Thanks Steve

Thanks for making content and developing the sport, Mike!💪 Lots of your videos have helped me progress.🙏 I’m still afraid of flying backwards when the rotation has stopped 😭. In these situations, I tell myself: "Don't panic, engage your core, steer the kite to continue the loop, and wait until the kite flies forward and pulls so that the rotation continues." However, in most cases, I panic and try to rotate my body like in late front/back rolls, which doesn’t always work out.😂 I think that stops me from doing boardoffs. Any suggestions on how to land jumps when you fly backwards and the rotation has stopped would be greatly appreciated.🤙

Made that mistake with accidental kite loops while doing a backroll a few times myself... did hurt, I must say... I was looking for EXACTLY that kind of explanation on how to steer the kite. So many people told me just to leave either the front hand or back hand off of the bar... never worked for me. Now I just tell myself at the approach: This is your front hand, this is your front hand, and BOOM! Thanks, Mike

Amazing video - in terms of actually developing the 'advanced muscle memory'... I guess the best thing to do is simply a lot of large jumps with rotations whereby you have time to witness the kite and its response to the 'front' and 'back' hand pulls? Heading out to brazil in a few weeks, letz gooo

Compliments for the video, really great. One question, that I found nowhere answered until now: How do you "know" where your kite is? I mean: Do you ever look up to your kite, or do you only feel it from your bar? It is easy to look up in a normal jump, but even then I feel like "I don´t want to look up, but rather look where I am going/ landing" - so I feel like training not to look up to the kite from the beginning is the right way to do it. Can you give a hint on that, how to get a good feeling on where exactly is my kite? Thank you so much!

Thanks Mike for all these tips, very appreciated... I understand them all... but what can help me to understand and feel where my kite is? I can't feel it if it's at 12 o'clock or not.. when I do rotation with small kite (e.g. 9m) I always find myself downlooping or kitelooping unintentionally and too early. And you know... it doesn't feel good at all🤣
@amugos12124 ай бұрын
Great video Mike. One question with regard to jumping. I have taken some videos when i jump and it seems like I fly my kite to far back. However, when I'm kiting it feels like if I don't fly my kite that far back I don't have any lift. Right before you pull the bar in for a jump do pull a bit with your front hand to stop the kite from flying further back?
@gethighwithmike4 ай бұрын
If you aren't getting lift when your kite hits 12, and instead you're getting it when your kite is past 12, it's because you are t opposing the kite when it goes from 45 to 90 degrees, so you aren't getting line tension in the ideal way. So you've got to work on bringing your body low to the water and carving upwind *whilst* you're bringing the kite up, and then you will create line tension and lift during that part of the take off

I've almost been kiting for 20 years and I've successfully mastered this type of steering but my bad jumps start with me planning to leave the kite behind me so i can control the landing with my front hand but then in the jump/rotation I have already steered the kite waay to far forward which results in me steering the kite even further forward resulting in it not catching me. Any tips for that? It seems to have gotten way worse since is started flying SLS kites which are way faster and responsive.
