Cockpit looks fantastic and I reckon that the console looks great as it is. Suede on top and the raw aluminium side panels make a great contrast. Love the videos. Keep 'em coming!

The aluminum footplate color goes good with your silver exterior and gives depth to the footwells. Easier to clean.

Might get scuffed over time, but that was my thought as well. Perhaps some matt carbon strips to prevent any scuffing?

You could cover the side panels with 3M Carbon Fiber wrap! Clean, fast, easy to clean or repair if damaged, and inexpensive. In fact, you could wrap it, install it, and if it doesn't look good just peel it off and go to plan B. Excellent progress, and a real sweet looking Kit Fox. Cheers from Winnipeg.

@maleficentcop27524 жыл бұрын
Ok so the sides of the center conceal.... When I first saw the interior the thought was cover it in black cloth or carbin... But after seeing the aluminum I think that's the way to go...it looks more gray than not, which matches the color scheme of the plan... you could even paint it's gray, but a matt finish clear coat would work too..... Lots of progress, looking good...👍👍👍

Another great video Brian! Really enjoying the series. Appreciate the effort you've taken to track each step thru in your vids - from problem solving to materials test and procurement. Very educational and inspiring! Baggage compartment net/attachment is really cool. Carbon fiber side panels would really look awesome. Keep up the great content, can't wait to see it fly.

Really nice to see it all beginning to come together Bryan! Your hard work is paying off. I prefer the naked aluminium myself, perhaps with a few matt carbon or other scuff strips where the cowboy boots & spurs would scuff the alu? Thanks for a great build video again!

I have watched your entire build. Your kit fox is amazing. I will be watching several more times when I build mine. Your videos are going to be extremely helpful . As for the aluminum sides they do go well with your existing interior. If you do anything at all just skin them with carbon fiber but I wouldn’t cover them with the black fabric.

Leaving the console panels as they are might be an advantage if you have to carry out some work. They are a reflective surface so if you have to do any pedal work in the future you might appreciate the fact that they will reflect light to help illuminate what you are working on. The interior of my race car is white for that very reason and if I ever have to crawl into the car to work under the dash there is plenty of reflected light to make it easier to see.

Several have suggested this already but why not cover the aluminum side panels with the same carbon fiber look wrap you used on the instrument panel? Gives you the carbon fiber look while maintaining your aluminum panels and likely very durable and easy to wipe clean if it gets dirty. Thanks for the videos it is an inspiration to folks like myself. I'm not building a Kitfox but rather a CH750 and the common item will be I'm also going with the Yamaha Apex engine. So thanks for all the Engine specific videos and work you've done. Cheers.

Looking really good. You could paint the kick panels white to match your seats. Later if you decide to make them carbon it’s easy enough to do and it’s not wrapped. I’d also think about moving your handheld radio somewhere closer to you when you’re flying that way if it ever is needed is easy to get to.

Looking awesome man! Its really coming together and looking very professional. On the center console, if you're willing to put in the time & effort put in the carbon fiber on the sides now because I suspect the fabric is going to be more subject to wear quicker from the sides of feet, etc and then you'll prob end up redoing it again later anyway.

Mike Patey has talked a lot about how, over time, carbon fiber and aluminum don't play nice when they touch each other. You seem to have a few accessories and fasteners contacting the carbon fiber boards. Are they doing so directly? Have you placed a third material between them? As always, awesome video. Can't wait to see this fly!
@BowenAero4 жыл бұрын
No direct metal contact with the carbon fiber. There is paint, powder coat or weather stripping between them.

carbon fiber kick panels... since you took the time to take out the forward floor board, why not do it right, now, instead of making a change later, like you said. it would be harder to do down the road.

Could have told you carbon is heavier than equal thickness wood but profoundly stiffer .. for things like floor boards the lightest you can do is balsa or foam with a carbon layer on top and bottom .... never solid carbon .... And its something i would never farm out , bond it at home .... Balsa for floorboards you question ... Corvettes had it .. High end boats and some airplanes .. It has been a very quick , easy go to solution for even high end , high performance equipment .. just coat it with carbon . Also those under seat pieces should be balsa and carbon ... lighter than what you got

I think its worth making the console side panels from carbon. When making decisions like this, I always think, "would I find myself explaining my reason for doing it this way, in the future?" I wouldn't want to stop short, here, and then tell everyone why you didn't do finish it out in carbon like the rest of the interior. Like you're making excuses for a decision. Just my 2 cents! This project is really impressive! I can't wait to see it finished! Keep on brother!

FAR 91.203(a)(2) states that no person may operate a civil aircraft unless it has within it an effective U.S. registration certificate issued to its owner. It doesn’t say the aircraft registration certificate has to be displayed, but it must always be kept within the aircraft when operated. The Airworthiness Certificate is the document that must be displayed (FAR 91.203(b) states "No person may operate a civil aircraft unless the airworthiness certificate required by paragraph (a) of this section or a special flight authorization issued under § 91.715 is displayed at the cabin or cockpit entrance so that it is legible to passengers or crew.")
