This kit had all the quick-build options and took approximately 1,500 hours with no prior aircraft building experience and a relatively leisurely pace.
@deeremeyer17492 жыл бұрын
You wore the same two or three shirts for "approximately 1500 hours" over 2 years at least while "building" a "quick build" aircraft "at home" at a "liesurely pace"? How many hours did all your "helpers" that appear to do WAY more of the "tough stuff" than you do as you spend way more time by the "workbench" than by the "workpiece" put in?

How someone does a project like this, is unfathomable (for me). My father and grandfather built a summer lake house, brick, cement, three-levels in the 60's, in front of my eyes as a child, ... I don't get it. I can't even change a bulb... Respect...

I wish to retire like these guys in your 70s , having your friends over at the hanger or garage play games, drink, bbq , jokes all around and get to build an airplane in 2 years. Then fly it over the Atlantic or east to west coast run then sell it for a profit and then repeat it again. Musch much fun this way and you live longer and stay healthy.

10-15 years ago I built a backyard playground, took me a whole summer... How you build an airplane in your garage is totally unimaginable, even if, they provide all the information, and support one may need, .. It's simply not possible. One of those (and of many things), that I see it, but I don't believe it...

I see that you got all the quick build options. How much did it end up costing total (kit, instruments, engine, etc)? I'm torn between this and a Sonex, but I'm afraid that the price of the Sonex just blows everything else that I've looked at out of the water
@pilot517310 жыл бұрын
JD. Sorry for the late response. Hopefully you've made a decision on which kit to go with and you're building already. As for the kitfox / sonex decision, my Dad had the same question. His decision to go with the Kitfox was based less on cost and more on usability: more room and easier ingress/egress. As for cost, I've never asked him the total as I figure it's kind of like asking a lady her age. That said, you can do some basic math by looking at the kitfox pricelist. Quick build kit, upholstery kit, rotax 912, prop. Plus add in the Dynon SkyView, intercom, breaker panel, radio, paint, etc etc etc. I suspect the total is somewhere in the range of 3x the firewall back kit price. Good luck.

Nice, but if you had stopped at each tricky process that scares people and explain the procedure than zipped thru after the 1st example. Such as smoothing welded joints, seaming, gluing fabric over corners, ironing seams and total panels, saturating fabric, painting, instrument panel.

How durable and strong is that material you wrap the wings and plane in?
@vasicp3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't need to be that strong. The frame does; the fabric used for wrapping is synthetic, and is certified for aircraft covering. It is popular with "bush planes" (planes that often land/take off away from a runway), because they are easy to repair if the fabric is torn or damaged.
