I agree with you. I am now 70 and have played dolls all my life. As a widow for 28yrs, I have lived alone for a big part of those years and find my dolls very comfortable. I have found reborns in the last 3 years, wish I found them earlier. I had a nursery until my daughter & 2 sons moved in with me & I lost my nursery room, urg! The babies are all in my room now, bit crowded. Xx

I totally understand what you're saying. I have experienced that type of judgment and I just blow it off. I love this hobby, it makes me happy and it has lowered my blood pressure when I'm stressed out. Yes, it feels uncomfortable when people attack me for wanting to hold a doll, or buy clothes for them, but I don't dwell on what others say. It's their problem, not mine. 😊❤️ Just roll on 👍

Idk how people can think they look like dead babies? I have sadly seen full term stillborn babies shown in pictures and they are pale, no pink color to them, and they have dark almost black lips and fingernails etc, these babies have pink to thier skin which is what healthy babies color looks like so I don't understand where these people get that from?

Love this video. I worked with mothers, dads and their babies for over 40 years. When I retired as an OB nurse, I really missed holding babies. I was not able to volunteer at a hospital because of the pandemic. I restarted collecting dolls and bought a couple of reborn dolls. My children and close friends are understanding and support my love of doll collecting. I am so blessed.

My Shpeil I used to make at my booth at the dolls shows was “ reborns are the perfect baby, they never cry or wake you in the night, they don’t spit up or mess their pants and you don’t have to feed them! They are just cuddly and cute!

Thank you for this video. I would like to record it and play it when I'm up against people who despise the hobby. Most of my family/friends have no idea but my daughter-in-law screamed when she saw one of my babies and said "how scary"! She happen to be on the phone with her sister at the time and her sister said what happened-and she said I'll tell you later what I just witnessed. I felt so hurt. Like you said I would never make fun of their endeavors what is so wrong with mine? You made me feel better and I will play this video for someone one day when I get the nerve!

YES!!! Yes to everything you said!!! I have some backlash and I’m sure many people don’t say anything to me but still talk…I DON’T CARE anymore. I have loved babies since I WAS a baby so it’s total natural to me and it makes me happy. Like you said, we aren’t out getting high, walking the streets or robbing folks so…. I have adult sisters with disabilities, two with cognitive issues and one with physical issues. They will never have living babies of their own. Do you know how much joy it has brought to them to have these dolls. I mean, every mean horrible thing someone can think of to say to me could never take the happiness it has given me to watch these young ladies love on, “feed”, change and rock these babies. The one I made for my elderly mil (she has dementia as well) as a portrait baby of my son…her reaction 😢❤ PRICELESS!!! She and my son are very close and she was even in the room when he was born so this baby was everything to her. All the haters can continue to keep their negativity and live their sad lives. All the while we won’t be caring and enjoying life to the fullest!

She just got sent out today. I do tell people I collect dolls but I don't say to much about it because they think it's weird and then I tell them about the art part of it and I'm not crazy or going threw my childhood again. I am a 78 year old retired RN. I have an invalid husband who requires a lot of my time. But I get refreshed when I go into my dolly room and work on another reborn baby. I have about 20 made babies and about 30 kits to make. I am at the stage of just making them as my hobby and personal collection. When I am gone it will be up to my two children as to what to do with all this collection but I can say it's been money well spent:)

I find that they are hard to sell. No one wants to pay up to $200. I have given many away. I still love making them, especially Bountiful Baby “ reborn” collection. I watch for discounts on kits and bodies. I prefer to do closed eye kits.

Absolutely loved this video, thank you for making it! I have been very lucky with my family being accepting, in fact I found out one of my sisters loves them too but her husband won’t support her getting them and same with my stepdaughter. Others I have been worried about sharing it with them. My grown and teenage kids have had spouses and girlfriends/boyfriends and all have been supportive, as well as my dad. My one sister I knew wouldn’t be so I never bring it up nor does she, and she has seen them in my house, but she noticed a difference in my mood when I stated this hobby.

I just started collecting reborns but have always loved baby dolls. The best part of this hobby is sharing it with my 9 year old daughter. She is just like me and was the one who encouraged me to make the first purchase. She spends all her time in my tiny closet nursery with our two reborns. The only other people I've shared my dolls with is my husband, sister and a friend. The best part is my husband thinks it's adorable and charming that I love dolls and dollhouses. He's even said he'd buy my next one. That made me love him more, for sure!

I grew up in a home with a single parent and one sister, just us girls and loved dolls my whole life. I couldn’t afford reborns either and had to sell a lot of my other dolls to afford one. Once I decided to become an artist, that kind of opened up the door for me to have a much bigger collection as I am able to make them myself and sell dolls that I create. I would’ve been happy with just one that I could spoil and love on! I love having a smaller collection and prefer that over a larger one. Love your sweet baby and spoil her! 💗

My husband, and son, think it's weird, but I told them that I don't care. Time went by... we now have a Pack&Play set up in the bedroom (it has a bassinet), and a baby seat in the living room. My mother who is 87 years old used to be a doll collector and dealer and loved dolls and she passed that on to me. I have always loved my dolls and now my reborns! I have the sleeping Madison baby and she is a comfort baby. I have a moderate anxiety disorder. By holding/rocking her it produces oxytocin which lowers my anxiety level.

For some people the dolls trigger Uncanny Valley, like the wax figures do to you. I have a couple people in my life that are creeped out by the dolls but they keep it mostly to themselves. Im sure people stay stuff behind my back but that is not my business. I get a lot more positive responses. For a lot of people holding them really is what brings it home for them. I am a life long doll collector. I had porcelain dolls in my room as a teenager when I first started to date my husband so he has always known and I have always had them but go through periods where I'm more or less into my collection. I wish people wouldn't judge what brings other people joy as long as it isn't hurting anyone. Life is too short to not fill it with the things that make you happy!

When I first met my husband I had big closet and the top self filled with all my best dolls from my life. I kept them but didn't get back into dolls until our boy were grown. First reborn I brought home threw him a little but I definitely think it helped that I had some from the very beginning even my fam always new I had a thing for dolls helped. One of my son's thinks I'm totally whack another will hold each one to feel the difference in weights and sizes. My daughter is creeped out by most of them with the exception of a few my adopted sister has anxiety that causes conversion. It's a real complex anxiety disorder and I took her a baby with a good box opening and gifted her and she cried and he does help her. My neighbor gave me a weird look when I was getting ready to load one in the car because she was wrapped I let her look and then hold her and she was amazed at how relaxing holding her it was. And my oldest held one and was astonished at how real she felt. So I don't worry about it much if they like fine if they don't fine. My real sister don't like em and think I'm insane but that's ok I don't like everything she does either. Lol ... I like the peaches SCULPTS really well too.

I have a turtle too...he was the size of a quarter and is now the size of a dinner plate. His name is King Henry. I have two dogs and 3 cats. I had a relative that kind of insulted my dolls as well. I love this video! I remember my step dad thought my reborn was weird at first. I said hey I don’t want to hear it. You have and I’m not kidding he has like 15 if not more totes in the attic full of wwe toys, dvds. Pretty much anything wwe and Chicago bears. He goes to just about every local wrestling show they have. Lol he’s a kid at heart. I got him to hold my reborn a few weeks ago. He liked him. My mom is a collector of nightgowns. She’s got a ton of nightgowns. She likes reborns too. But she was uncomfortable with outings. What broke her from that was we had a local street fair for 2 days. My reborn got the ATTENTION. Everyone loved him. Held him. I gave information the best I could. People were just amazed and positive.

I have been lucky as far as doll collecting goes. I have loved dolls all my life. When I was small there was not a lot of money in our family. My dad walked out on my mother when I was 6 months old and never paid child support or wanted anything to do with me. My mom and I moved in with my grandmother, mom went to work and my grandmother raised me until I was 8.I only had a couple of dolls but I loved them so much. I was a only child so they were my friends and kept me from being lonely. I got a few more dolls when my mom married my stepfather and played with them until I was 13. Between 8-13 I had a few Barbie and Ken dolls and a few more dolls with accessories. I always wanted a realistic looking baby doll and I thought I would never have one. I sold all my dolls at age 13 and just thought I was through with dolls. None of my friends ever played with dolls so I was in it by myself. When I got married at age 19 my husbands twin sisters who was a year younger than me loved dolls and his mother made them and had a large collection. I felt like I had gone to heaven. I had my only child a year later a daughter named Christy and she never really liked dolls but her grandmother would make her one each year on her birthday with a matching dress for her. This is when I got back into doll collecting. I realized how much I missed it and I found out about reborn dolls and I was so happy because finally I could have a realistic baby doll. None of my friends has ever give me a hard time and my husband as well as my ex-husband was always supportive of my doll collecting. I have never been one to really care what people thought so I guess that has also made it easier for me. I had a lot of childhood trauma and I lost my daughter 4 years ago and I went into a deep depression and my dolls has helped me so much. I will always love dolls and if they make you happy who cares what anyone else thinks.

I love Irwin's hangout beds in his enclosure and the rock looking food bowls are so cute. Peaches is adorable, I love those rompers, I have several for my dolls, they look so cute in them. Does Peaches come in an opened eye kit? My daughter is not into dolls but she is supportive of me and tells me that if it makes me happy that is all that matters. She will help me pick out outfits when we are shopping and thinks they are amazing how real the reborns look but still would not want me to bring mine along shopping with us. I think people who freak out about dolls have seen too many of those horror movies (which I think are hilarious cuz they're so fake)!! When I got my reborn last month my parents tried to take my guardianship away from me (I'm mentally ill) because it's not normal to them. They took me to court and their requests were denied because I proved I can take care of myself. The other day my mom ripped my reborn away from me and started swinging her around violently by her feet. (My reborn, Hegen, is fine). She also yells at me whenever I buy Hegen stuff like I'm spending her money.

That's terrible. I live in the UK, my previous career involved extensive safeguarding work. I too suffer from mental illness (which is why I don't work now) and am classified as a vulnerable adult. I don't mean to intrude on your family relationships and situation (after all I don't know you or them) but this behaviour is, at best, unacceptable. Not knowing how things work in the States, do you have a health or social worker who can help with your mother's behaviour? I really hope things improve for you.

Agree, always been collecting porcelain doll. Whats was okay with everyone. Then I saw reborn and just wanted one. Well one wasn't enough have 20 now. Some of my family complain about they outfits. Yes I know I do have allot. But they never grow out of them, and do have different sizes. I just now at the stage I can't care anymore. It is my money. Must say my son hate just the one allot and it is my poor Cammi and I do love her to bits. She is so real. My husband are okay with my babies and did get me a new one now for my birthday. So glad I am not alone with some ppl always have something to say.

I found im very lucky in my situation. My family knew i loved dolls. when i was little i had 18 inch dolls, baby alives and baby dolls. My family especially my little brother loves my dolls. Then my boyfriends mom (my future mother in law) paints them!! So their family is ok with it. Shes even going to teach me how to paint.

It makes me so sad that anyone would hate a hobby or art that someone has. People love a huge number of things in this world. There are lots of things that I don’t care for but I don’t have a problem with someone else liking it. So I feel like it should go the same way. It seems like a lot of people want to be mad at everything. I’m a little disturbed that people just walk around going into rooms that they haven’t been invited into. Closed doors in our house mean you’re not welcome in this space without consent. I have two “Yoda” babies , Bastian and Lyra. They were made for me by an artist , the only thing I changed myself was an eye swap. They hang out in the living room with me on their own little sofa next to my pup Boe’s bed. I tend to only take Bastian out with me, not because I favor him but he is weighted and Lyra isn’t. Bastian is weighted to be 5lbs. I’m Autistic , have C-PTSD, and TBI so the weight is needed to calm my constant anxiety. My family is perfectly fine with my babies. Especially knowing why I have them and seeing how benefits me. In the outside world I never get poor reactions but the girl wearing ear protectors that have a galaxy print on them, a Service Dog, and a Baby Yoda dressed up in adorable clothes….I get those “how precious” looks especially from older women. I go with it 😝. Love that sweet Ellie , she is such a fun chunky monkey ❤️❤️🌟🌟 thank you for sharing not only your beautiful babies, but your wisdom as well. I always like hearing topics like this because they are often things I don’t really stop to think about.

This is true, but we all have real reactions to a lot of things but some of us choose not to be rude about it. It’s sad that dolls can cause such hurtful behavior in others. In the end, they are just dolls & ppl have feelings. 💗

I am still at the Aston Drake stage and there it will have to stop as there is no way I would be able to afford a true reborn doll. I bought them, I have three at the moment, to make clothes for. I love to sit of an evening knitting dresses and jackets/cardigans and I have fabric I plan to make outfits with. I don't think my family really know about my dolls. I'm on my own so nobody goes into my bedroom.They would probably think I was very strange! They are still in their boxes under my bed as I haven't figured a way to have them on display. Also I have a cat which is a consideration. I take the dolls out and cuddle them, redress them and put them back.

YES!! Train sets! Computer games! All the other things that adults are allowed to play with, but we can't enjoy dolls! Does anyone else think, as a lot of us are female, this is a bit sexist as well?! I recently got a boy Ashton-Drake doll (my first)and I'm delighted with him. Haven't taken him out yet, but we had some unplanned "reactions" when people came to our house for work. One person thought he was real and the others had to look twice! My husband is fine with him (and the cat likes to share his crib), unfortunately the rest of the family are politely ignoring him. Well, I have wanted a doll/dolls for years, have any amount of stuff on my plate, and feel better for having him, so...tough! Thanks for this video! X

Personally, I hate the Chucky doll, Annabelle movies, the Twilight Zone talky Tina doll. Even commercials on TV, advertising for a certain hotel are like, don't stay with your Aunt and all her dolls, stay at... they always play creepy music and make it appear that something is "wrong" with a person who collects dolls.
